Painters still have us scheduled for the 17th for the main show. Then the Purple Bed people called and moved the Delivery up from the 18th to the 17th. Painters don't need us at Alpha so we will be at Bravo for the bed delivery and assembly/installation. I hope they get the correct support package to us before then. We were supposed to get a mattress line, and fitted cover, fitted sheets, some pillows and other stuff thrown in on the deal. The problem is that they sent Queen instread of Cal King. So hopefully the Cal King stuff gets delivered before the 17th.
Overcast and cool. Squirrels and birds were creating a racket when we headed out on the boat this morning. Maybe we’ll have a couple hours of no rain.
Been awhile since I checked in. Been having some health issues and it turned out to be not so good news. As the saying goes, **** happens. Until 7 months ago I was in, ok thought I was in good health and have only been to the emergency room 2 times in my life for myself. Once when I was 7 for an athasma attack and then on July 21st when I was advised by an ER nurse to get to the ER NOW! Because of my weight loss and swallowing issues, she said it's likely cancer. She was right. After a few hours in the Dallas ER and a CT scan the bad news came. Stage 4 esophageal cancer. I then spent the next 2.5 days at Salem Hospital. A week later got my "port" installed for chemo and I was off an running so to speak.
Here is the crazy part of the story, in 6 weeks I went from the ER, to chemo, and I "retired" from work...well I'm in the process of retiring. I have a lot of leave time so I'm taking an extended paid time off so PERS and Social Security can do it's thing. Hopefully medicare will kick in as well once SS is approved.
So my last day at work was Aug 28th. On Sept 30th we left for Mexico for a week. We waited until the last minute to decide if we should go or not but the doc's and I said we are going. Wife was not too sure since it meant pushing back chemo treatment a week. Not a bad way to start out "retirement".
On the plus side once treatment started I had immediate positive results. At one point I had lost 50lbs. I looked at that as good thing... yeah no one else did. Anyway after two rounds I could eat again and I ate my way though Mazitlan last week. Gaining 10lbs back. So this is the upside I guess. This week they started me on a couple different immuneo therapies which is a huge thing so I'm hopeful I'll be around for awhile. This is a bad cancer to get and there is no being cancer free ever. Some form of chemo will be a part of what life I have left. One thing to note, this cancer is not easily discovered until it's usually too late. A CT Scan is the only way to verfy it, and or a camera down your throat to see the ugly thing. Being given the stage 4 lable also means it has spread. I have small tumors in my lungs, liver and lyphnodes. Liver and lungs are working at 100% however. I'm doing well and feel 100% right now. The chemo side effects have been minimal for me and tolerable.
Our trailer is at Gleneden beach so wife and I will be spending time over there on the Siletz doing some fishing and beach walking. I'm taking this event much better than she is. She has good days and bad, and the bad days are pretty bad. You hear about others that have had this happen to them but you have zero understanding until it's you, the one that drew the short straw. Anyway that's my update. Kinda long but tried to keep it short. Still wrapping my head around not working. Kinda feels like I'm on vacation. I left my crew rather ubruptly but they understand and I kept them in the loop the whole time. Didn't get to finish stuff I wanted too but I had to put me and my wife first this time.

Howdy Rich. We were out fishing, drying out ourselves, dogs and camp out & cleaning fish so I didn’t get on until late and didn’t do any back reading last night.
That’s a lot Rich. Keep the faith! You and your wife are #1 at this point. Retirement can be fun!
I’ll send a PM.
