Wow! 25K for just making the top 75? Boy am I a few decades late. When I was still doing shows with the folks I was doing good to get a ribbon or a trophy and a gift certificate to a local show area tack shop....OR the bar with Broasted Chicken that I couldn't go into because I wasn't 21!
Neighboring rancher's wife and her mother were championship level in the Reigning competitions. The have a pretty good-sized room in the indoor arena "open stall" barn that was just stacked full of Trophy Saddles, enough Trophy's to open a trophy shop with, Head Gear and all sorts of stuff they had won along with pictures. Her mother is gone now and she retired from competition a number of years ago after her back injury. Her husband says she came up to him last June and told him she was done riding. They've sold all the horses and are selling off everything equine. The horse trailer, Saddles, everything. Really strange because just before that they had a couple of tons of hay delivered to the barn. Couldn't have fed more than a few bails of that. She had come off a Mule the hard way and broke her back a few years ago and had a terrible recovery. She may have had something happen that triggered some PTSD and the sale of everything. They took off for their 'winter' ranch in Arizona where they winter over while I was gone on the elk hunt. We're kind of curious if they are going to be selling one or both ranches. If they sell the one here, we could be getting new neighbors, but we'll see. They've been here since 95 or 96. Her dad used to own the place, they owned the one we're in now.
