The only thing that is not a win is yesterday when stepping off of the porch into our flower bed I landed on a rock and went sideways and sprained the crap out of my ankle. Well a lot has transpired while I was away at church.

I was going to suggest fixing the bent tie rod and seeing where that left you before going all out for a bunch of new parts. But it seems like you already (half) did that and it’s working now. 👍

I would still consider changing out your bent collar. That worries me a bit. The strength may be compromised or there could be a hidden crack.

Didn’t you change the entire hubs recently? Remember to always check alignment after work which involved steering components. The new hub tie rod position won’t be the same as the one you too off.

Hope the ankle isn’t too bad and you’re feeling better soon.

Hubs shouldnt change alignment, they attache to the knuckle, the steering components attach to the knuckle.

I do however recommend at this point, if possible, to have a shop that specializes in alignments and front ends to go over it to ensure safety of the components.

My steering wheel is off a little to the left but I like the way I can hold it whilst I rest my arm on the door's armrest so I just leave it the way it is.

Ah, I stand corrected. Oops.

Yes I agree with the alignment shop idea. Tristan I think this would be a good idea as soon as you can get the loose joints replaced. Otherwise they’d probably have a hard time putting it in alignment and it would then need done again.

Bad alignment is hard on tires. Tires are expensive.

Awesome! Now crack open a root beer and bask in the afterglow of a job well done. With the sprained ankle elevated.

I think I'm going to go with that Detroit Axle kit. Detroit Axle has some good stuff and for the $270 price tag for ball joints, tie rods, and sway bar end links, it's a pretty good deal. And a 10 year warranty to boot. That is next on the list. I do not plan on keeping that bent collar on there long. I do not like that kind of thing either. Too sketchy. As soon as I have my new tie rods and I will have an alignment done. I did just put hubs on thanks to Eric! Thank you all for following along with me!

Unfortunately, I can't sit down and prop up my ankle yet! I have a customer that needs a brake job! And then another job after that for a transmission fluid change and spark plugs. I got work to do! I can't be resting yet!

While I admire your work ethic, take it from someone who didn’t take the time to heal properly between jobs that it is important to heal first or you will find you will end up being able to do less and less.

I turn sharper to the left then I do to the right! Hopefully the 1-in longer pitman arm will fix that. If that doesn't fix it, maybe the combination of tight tie rod ends and the longer Pittman arm will take up that extra inch! The steering radius is bad enough on this truck when it works all the way, losing an inch is too much!
My pitman arm on my 2001 is about 7-3/8" Center to center.

I understand that. Unfortunately I ended up getting hurt some more but what's new LOL. I was breaking a transmission drain bolt loose and when it finally broke loose I slammed my elbow into a cross member so hard that I have two elbows right now. Here I am four plus hours later and it still hurts and I still have two elbows. And my ankle hurts. Maybe I'll go to bed early tonight so I can get up and go to work tomorrow and maybe not hurt as much.

Good news though! My truck turns on a dime now. At least compared to how it was. I can turn out of my driveway and stay on my Lane without even thinking about going into the other lane. It turns sooooo much better. I can compete with those coil spring suspensions now LOL

Ice those injuries for an hour before bed and then a but when you get up. Ice, ice, ice. You”ll be amazed at how much faster the inflammation goes down.

Yes settle down for an hour and throw ice on both your injuries.

Take several ibuprofen if you can/able every 6 hours.

Glad your steering is improved.

Glad to hear you got the turning problem worked out without having to sell your extra elbow. I've always had two elbows...
