Back to stock height F47 project

Returning to stock ride height using a donor frame from 1951. Want to get back to original wheels, and suspension for stock height.
I will retain the 5.0L power plant and AOD, or possibly use a different trans that will bolt up to my bell housing, 1990 Ford.engine.
I may have to start search for a 9" rear axle, since I would like to cruise at 60-65 mph.
I know some will consider this a backward step but my front frame horn clearance is 7 3/4", which kisses most curbs where I drive.
Really would like to retain same stock wheels front to back I am currently using a 2001 Explorer 8.8 rear.
All comments welcome.

Tom

Hi Tom. Clearance for the frame horns on my stock 52 with optional 6:50 x 16 bias tires is 13 3/4 inches. Good luck!

Tip my m2 set up was way to low so I flipped the control arms and turned the upside down. This give you higher ride . I had run out of adjustment or spring travel before. I called the mfg and was told to do that. I am sure other folks have done it also. It set it up at close to stock then I adjusted down some with the coil overs. I probably could have done something different but as always I try to do the most work first and find out later I could have done this or that. Either way I am driving it daily now. Good Luck

Well the hunt for parts begins.

The first thing I need to do is get a set of rims to fit the chassis. The wheels on it are not part of the deal.
Also looking for a 9" diff, which may pose a challenge for availability.
edit: may have a line on a set of rims from a 54.

Chassis clean up

I hope to have cab off the new frame so I can sandblast the chassis next week. We are running out of good weather to work outdoors.
I need to find room to store cab, box and front clip for the winter.

Updates and progress

I sandblasted the frame today with cab on as I need help to remove it. Took me about 45 minutes. I will paint the frame rails with POR15 once the cab is removed. I etch primed the springs, diff and steering box for now until I can remove them.

Not completely blasted but better than wire wheeling.

Primed parts
So satisfying to see pristine metal. I will unbolt whatever is attached to the rails before painting them.
i also found 4 rims, two-15" and two-16" .
On the hunt for 3 more 15".

Painting frame

My original plan was to spray the frame with POR15 but since the cab is still on, I decided to paint it by hand, to protect the bare metal.
I left the bits unpainted that need removing or moving.
Forward movememt.

Parts scored

I had a successfull day finding 4 more 6"x15" rims to match two I already had. That gives me the option of choosing the best 5 for sandblasting.
i also found a truck 9" rear axle circa 1968-70 that is bound up but I will tear it down to see what parts are required other than bearings and seals. Happy days.
