150ford
all dcx is doing is reselling the past with this hemi thing. then a real hemi is much bigger and a elephent motor not a small block as this one is . ford rules here.
The new hemi is mostly hype anyway. What makes an engine a hemi is the heads. These newer engines dont even have hemisperical heads. Just a marketing ploy.
I thought true hemis have 2 spark plugs per cylinder anyways dont they?
Yes and no..........Real hemis did NOT have 2 plugs.........When run in Top fuel the motor that's based on the venerable 426 Hemi DOES have 2 plugs per fired by 2 HUGE magnetos........The current psuedo 5.7 hemi actually DOES have 2 plugs per!!
Some useless tivia...........about 1/2 way through a run the nitro burning Top Fuel motor isn't even using its plugs............they're actually gone by that time. The motor is actually running like a diesel at that point!!!!
Did you also know that a T/F motor only turns aprox. 500 revolutions during a 4.xxx second run...............and sometimes is TOTALLY rebuilt between rounds.
dohc is correct. a 426 hemi and before "1950 something" had only 1 plug. they started useing 2 plugs in top fuel much later on.
and yes we do totally rebuild between rounds in about 60 min's. that is mainly because every thing is worn out or burnt up. ie bearing are wasted, pistons are all fried, valves burnt. thats about 7500 hp and can only stay togehter about 30 to 45 seconds.
heres the history of the motor. going way back before mopar as it was a plane engine design http://www.allpar.com/mopar/hemi/chrysler-hemi.html
p/s bentley had a 2plug hemi ohc 4 valve, 4 clyinder in 1926.
There are a lot of so called Hemi engines, Honda's, Fords, GM all have Hemi's style heads.
What makes the DCX hemi unique, is that they call call them Hemi's because they own the name.
Some may use the terms, joke, puesdeo, marketing ploy, semi hemi, etc...
It tells me the Hemi name is doing exactly what DCX wants it to.
Check out this video, not the best quality, but it does show what the new 6.1L can do. I have seen dyno's that have them putting 367 rwhp stock. 500 rwhp with a SC.
There are articles of the 300C SRT-8 doing 12.9's in the 1/4 mile. Regardless of what many will say or think, (most likely two different things) 12.9's is in a luxury 4 door sedan, is not to be dis-respected and that is no joke.
As far as the Ford V-10 smoking the Hemi's, what kind of times are they running stock? From my calculations, to run a 15 flat with a 6500 lb truck, they better be putting down 440 rwhp (with 15% calculated in for lost).
I have seen stock Hemi QC's run 15.2, with Single Cabs running 14.9's.

Besides a few NASCAR Boss 429's, the SOHC cammer and believe it or not the early 1600CC Escort engines.....I don't believe there were any other Fords with hemispherical chambers.
GM has none that I'm aware of and neither does Honda.
A lot of people mistakingly refer to a pent roof chamber as a hemi style.....it is not.
Owning the name or not, it's misleading to call the new motor a hemi.
Don't get me wrong, "hemi" makes about as much sense as "Triton", at least "Vortec" refers to air flow............sorta.
This engine naming thing is getting outta hand....
As far as the V10 3/4s and 1tons beating the Hemi. Show me a video at the track and prove it. Sounds like hot air to me. If they don't actually put their foot to the gas then they are not racing. I agree with the earlier post about the Hemis running low 15's. There is even one posted on DTWtrucks.com that ran a 14.8 stock. Oh, yeah, and he did post his time slips just to reassure you SLE. If a V10 3/4 ton even runs that, holy crap. Definitely have to see it to believe it. And "Hemi" being misleading? No different than Triton? Correct me if I am wrong, please, but aren't the new Hemi motors equipped with Hemispherical combustion chambers but with two spark plugs per cylinder instead of one? Just checking. Cause if they are then that makes a heck of a lot more sense than "Triton." Wasn't that the God of the sea in "The Little Mermaid" or something?

You got to be kidding. when somebody says the word "Triton", they don't think of 60's muscle car legends. Dodge is ripping the name off, and using this so called 'hemi' in everything, it's become generic, which is sad, since the old Hemi is a legend. The new 'hemi' has pentroof head chambers, and two sparks per cylinder is a moot point.
