Hi guys, I now have a Hemi story to tell of my own. I've read multiple posts here stating that the new HEMI is not that fast!! That simply is NOT true.
Let me start off by saying that I'm a Die-Hard FORD fan, I've owned NOTHING in my life except FORD!!
Anyway, today I went for a ride in a new four door, short bed Ram, with the HEMI 5.7L engine and 3.92 gears (That my next door neighbor just bought). I expected this truck NOT to be fast at all. Afterall it is pretty quiet at idle, and it doesn't look very fast (like the lightning does).
So, I was in the passenger seat along for the ride. We pull up to a stop sign, and my friend mashes the gas, this truck snapped my head back like i was in a roller coaster, not just for a second, it stayed that why throughout the whole time we were accelerating, also the truck never revved that high. He didn;t want to push the truck too much since it was new.
Long story short this truck is a BEAST!! It's scarey fast. I still have a huge grin on my face and it's been over 2 hours since I went for the ride!!! I'm definetly thinking about buying one!!
The truck you rode in runs about a 15.2 second quarter with a professional driver. I hardly consider that neck snapping but they have a lot of horsepower. Take a ride in a lightning once.
Nope, I'm in Korea right now. They don't have any HEMIs over here. One thing I will give the dodge though is it outperformed the Chevy SS in everything except acceleration and costs about $10,000 less. As for all out speed you can't get it any cheaper than with the dodge. I'll take the ford for towing and longevity though.
Wow, even after someone else goes for a real world drive in the thing you still won't let it down that Ford supposedly has more power. Yes Dodge did lose to chevy on acceleration but only by mere tenths of a second. Bronco thanks for the info, I would love to go for a ride in one of those bad boys soon!
I don't care what these guys say, the Dodge 360 in the RAMS is wicked in my opinion. I've owned 4 Ford trucks and a GM with the 350. And my father owns 2 Dodges, so I have experience with them all. And in my opinion the 360 Magnum in the Dodges is wicked powerful. (Yes, the rest of the truck may be a different story, but we are talking motors here).
So if the HEMI 5.7 is more powerful than the "old" 5.9, I would definitely not pick on one at a stoplight. I would like to ride in one myself to be honest.
heck i was a stop light the other day and this brand new ss and hemi ram(ext cab) and light turned green and the ss wich some 20 ish kid driving thought he was going to be bad and swaqk the tires and speed of. well my 96 3.0L 5speed ranger and that hemi smoked him off the line. he didnt catch me till all most 2 blocks away from the light and when he passe me it looked as he was trying hard to ketch up to the ram but he never did. but i did get a surpised look when i squaked 'em in sceond gear form both of them. but my ranger aginst a hemi nooo way let me get a 5.0L built the way i want and yea i will eat'em for lunch. my buddies dad just bought a ram last week(all ready has 2500miles on it) and its got more pick up than the old 5.9L rams but still no lighting.
ok, the new HEMI is nuthing like the old one, the first HEMI's were a revolution in the design of engines, the new so called HEMI is just an engine with a little more hp and more racey gearing, the name HEMI is just for sales. now i will admit the doge HEMI gives that extra ummff we all want in a faster truck, but the new dodge daytona and rumble bee, wtf is that, there just difernt trimm packages. y is it that all the car coponies are trying to bring back all this stuff, the only one able to talk is the ford mustang, cuz it really capturs the muscle car, but the new charger, GTO, HEMI, rumble bee, and daytona shouldent even try, now i am a chevy fan but it's my onist opinion.
Long story short this truck is a BEAST!! It's scarey fast.
Scary fast? No offense, but I can (and do so relatively often) beat them in my 2000 Grand Marquis --and it's far from "scary fast". Heck, even the v10 Super Duty guys can take them out and they weigh tons more.
I've driven V10 Super Duties and the half ton 5.7 Hemi Dodge, and the Hemi Dodge is faster. This is not surprising when you consider that the Dodge is much lighter -1500 plus pounds-than the Super Duty is. The V10's being faster is wishful thinking unless they get the weight down quite a bit. Comparing a half ton truck's acceleration to a three quarter ton is not apples and oranges. Simple matter of lbs. per horsepower, and the Dodge has fewer lbs. per horsepower than the Super Duty Ford.
Now, ask which motor is better for towing, which is more relevant on a truck forum than which is faster in two vehicles with vastly different weights.
Sorry to break it to ya but the V10 fords, 01' and newer, have been spanking the hemi's since they came out. The 01-04 V10s are at least somewhat of a close race but 05's just anilate the hemi, heck I think my V10 is dog with the 3.73 LS rear and my 285s (giving me an actual gear ratio of about 3.55) and a weight of over 7k lbs and I've beaten up on 2 hemi's over the last year, let me tell you, it's quite fun. Us V10 boys have a little thing known as BSEGs after racing lighter half ton trucks, theres a reason for this, we don't lose very often.
