I can respect a smaller engine I just think they should offer the 6.0L in the 1/2 as it would make a smokin package that ford cann't touch with the 5.4L and dodge would have a run for there money in the 1/2 ton hotrod catagory. I actually really like the 5.3 in the Gm 1/2s and think it does a fine job. Would I own one over a 5.4L well I'm pretty bias so probably not but it has more to do with brand loyalty which I'm guilty of more than anything.
I'll admit I didn't know anything about the V10 untill I bought it and I just happen to luck out and get one of the best gas engines available, no matter 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton. I still think that trucks being equal the V10 has no probelm with the 6.0L, and as far as mileage you tell me why his equally geared, lighter, lower profile, ext cab sb with factory size tires consistanly gets 1-3mpg less than my heavier, taller, CC SB SD V10 that has more power, more torque, and larger tires. This is why many Gm loyalists will take the 8.1L over the 6.0, If your gonna get big block mileage you might as well have big block power.
The 8.1 compared to the V10 is a great matchup, I should say was!!! In 01-04 it was, Now with the introduction of the 3V V10 the 8.1 is gonna need a bit of refreshining if it wants to compete for the big gas heavy duty truck catagory. The oil comment which I always find amusing (just because I would love to beleive it) is a bit over exagurated on most threads. I do beleive it uses some oil but not as much as everyone makes it out to be. In all reality well see what Gm has up there sleeves when they unviel there new V10 in a couple of years. I hope ford still has afew tricks in there hat so they don't fall behind.
Just curious (and to jab a little), what are you gonna do when there is no 6.4 TT since it has yet to be confermed anywhere other than hearsay. I've yet to see any release information for an engine that will debut in a year unlike how GM has already released that it will have a V10 in 2 years! I'm not flaming and I am hopefull that what every is poroduced puts ford back on top but unfortunaly theres a lot to be determined yet. The 6.4TT does have a nice ring to it though!
You beat me to it Tim, As fas as my comparison DOHC, yes it was my V10 and my buddies 6.0. I only brought it up because it had alread been compared. The 460 satement it quite true, dad runs a 96' in a 2wd F350 DRW and that thing pulls like a frieght train. It'll pass everything but a gas station.

You know how the saying goes, "First impressions......"
I had an '85 and '89 460. I mildly built the carbed 460.......I can honestly say my '01 V10 is a better tow vehicle.
FF buddy a couple years back bought a used '99 SD........if I had driven that first, I don't think I'd be a V10 owner today.
Has anyone read all ten pages of this thread, talk about wondering all over, how is it that these things can change shape so quickly, lol lol lol. heck I've found that if you start on a thread thats more than about five pages you have to read the whole thing just to see how thing got to where it is at the end.
Anyway back to the thread, wasn't this originally about how fast the Hemi is??? or was it how slow the hemis is??? I don't even remember anymore.
How many times do i haft to see a new Doge with a "HEMI" Logo bigger than the truck on the back window. I see them all over austin two times at a stop light i smoked a two door "HEMI" my power train is only a work truck 5.0 9 years old that says a lot about dodge. I do like the old 5.9 Dakota R/T When will Ford put a V8 in a ranger?
It Was Probley Luck Or Maybe Just Driver Error, But I Beat A 4wheel Drive Supercab Hemi With My Truck And Its A 351 Pulling 35's, Like I Said It Was Probley Luck, But I'm All For A 351
