Hi John. You're about to embark on the small block hell highway, waterpump/front cover bolts.

One the really the long ones, coolant and all the crap it carries leaks into the open spaces the bolt passes through and solidifies into concrete.

To avoid breaking them off in the block, strongly recommend cutting/grinding the heads off.

Even then the accretion will probally be such as to make it impossible to pull cleanly off the cover & sometimes the pump.

I use the biggest safety pin I can find straightened out, Deep Creep & soft faced hammer. Dig, spray, bang repeat.

Took me 3 days on the autopsy of chapter bud Thomas's 5.8 to pull cover with out one broke in block or cover damage...

And that's on a stand. Good luck.

I think I should be okay Dave, pretty much all those bolts have been replaced when I changed the pulley system and put a new water pump on it. Looking back I don't no why I didn't change the cover gasket at that time. Now that I have the bullet dislodged from my brain I'll go through the agony now..lol

Timing chain cover gasket was the only one I didn't change

Thought I'd clean up the pitted letters I have and looking into a kit to restore the finish on them

They look good, John. How'd you get the pits off?

Sandblasted and then sanded by hand, they need to be re-chromed but I'm looking at getting a kit the might allow me to refinish them myself..

Hi John, those letters turned out pretty nice. I’m curious to see what the kit is.?

I haven't got it yet..that kit is more than I intend to get into, I'm just looking into a copper/nickle plating kit. All I intend to do is get the letters presentable to look at without all the pitting. If all else fails I have some chromed plastic stick on letters..
