Mercury M350 build thread
Thinking of picking up some smaller casters next time out of town..lol
So now that it is off the rotisserie I decided to paint it after 17 years since I built it..lol
should be back working on the cab soon..
First I drilled some holes to plug weld the stiffening brace the fits behind the side cowl..
Marked where the welds will take place and ground off the epoxy primer..
Then after fitting it in place plug welded around the perimeter..
I have no need for the louvers so cut them out , in retrospect I should have bought the complete
cowl panel without the louvers to save myself some welding...
Made the patch and fitted it in to fit..
Then started to tack it in place before being called in for supper..
back at it tomorrow to finish this up then think about starting on the doors..

Under the weather stripping at the front of the door has a lot of rot so tackled that today
I gently worked my way through the wrap around from the front skin and leaving that rounded bead intact
I also marked where I was going to cut the along the front of the door.
Then slowly worked my way through the top skin and removed the damaged metal
Bent some sheet metal to 90° and used the shrinker to shape it to the curve of the door skin
and welded it into place
still need to clean up the welds and also weld in another strip of metal over the patch from the bead of the outer skin.
Also made a couple other small patches , the area where the mirror gets bolted was broken out
Will clean up the welds tomorrow and re-drill the hole
One other area that had some rust through under the weather stripping was in that dog leg
cut out the area and started to weld in that patch.
Drivers side door I fitted the inside door bottom patch and ready to start the welding on that
The panel that supports the hinge mounts is not accessible normally
So took a wire brush to this area, wiped it down with solvent and brush on some DOM 16 on it and let it dry over night
Will mark the areas I intend to plug weld and grind off the paint and start welding in the panel..
