Mercury M350 build thread
Looks like progress has come to a stop for now until I get the knee repaired, being referred to a surgeon and will have to wait to see what he or she says. Looks like the four fenders and hood will have to wait until spring at the earliest now. Really sucks because I've seen some really good days that would have seen them done . Hopes of assembly over winter is looking pretty slim..
Im sure you’ll find something to tinker with during the winter.
Sorry to hear of your knee pain, John. Hopefully you can get some painting done before surgery. I hope a knee replacement will solve your problem.
I'm not sure how bad it has to be for them to replace the knee joint abe. Going for more x-rays this afternoon and waiting to hear about a MRI. Wife just tries to keep reality of the consequences and not making things worse. She generally never prevents me for going to the shop.I'm in enough pain now as it is and know it's best not to push myself ..it actually rather painful sitting in a chair so even the computer doesn't get as much of my time..
I can't pronounce or spell or for that matter remember all he said and hope when I see the surgeon he explains in more detail what is required. There is a woman I was talking to that said it took 6 weeks to first get to see a surgeon and another 6 weeks before the surgery so sounds as though I'll be getting a lot of couch time. Not enough doctors to go around I guess..
John, I had an orthopedic at my usual medical clinic say my right knee was bone on bone and you could use a replacement. I said my left knee hurts worse. What about that one? He said it's fine I wouldn't touch it.
I left ticked off at him. I went back a year later... same result. I went to an orthopedic I heard a lot of good things about. He said we'll fix the knee that hurts you the most. And so we did. The next year I did the right knee.
I personally would not recommend doing both at the same time. You'll be able to go to the shop after several weeks with a "good" leg to stand on.

I've had bone on bone knee pain for years with my left knee, and I've gotten second and third opinions from different docs. They all say my left knee certainly qualifies for replacement based on the imagining. I haven''t pulled the trigger on a replacement because I just don't seem to have the pain yet that John is experiencing. I'm sitting here in my recliner typing away, and my knee feels just fine--no problems at all sleeping. I just have pain walking and on steps. I do find myself becoming less active because of the pain, and for that reason, sometimes think about a replacement. The docs say when you need a replacement, you'll know it--and there won't be any second guessing. John, it sounds like you need a replacement, and I wish you the very best. I always follow your threads and marvel at your skills. It's a shame your knee is keeping you, for now at least, from finishing up what you want to get done before winter. Good luck.

I'm hoping with these anti-inflammatory pills and the Tylenol 3 that I may feel good enough to get some more done. There is some pretty nice days next week and all I need is two days to finish. Will need a hand bringing the hood in the shop and pretty sure I could handle it from there. Also have the room now with the cab back on the frame..Start the medication tonight..
If I’m going to do a physical activity, I take 600 mg’s of Ibuprofen. I recently started taking Glucosamine DS with Chondroitin Sulfate. Three capsules are recommended but one of my docs recommended 4. Inflammation I think is a big driver of joint pain. If you are taking a prescription med for inflammation, I can imagine that it would be helpful for you. I’m not sure there is strong science supporting Glucosamine and Chondrotin, but it seems to help me.

Ibuprofen helps but can't take too much because of all the anti-inflammatory pills I was on that messed up the lining of my stomach, I take stomach buffers twice a day because of the bleeding ulcers I had. First sign that these pills start bothering me I'll have to stop them..
I don't take things like Ibuprofen and aspirin every day--just when I'm going to be physically active. So far no stomach problems but understand it could very well happen. Most days I'm not physically active, but that's a problem too.. Sitting in a chair my knee feels great, but sitting in a chair has it's own risks and limitations. Hope you get to see a surgeon soon. My younger sister had a knee replacement, and she had a great experience. She just recently completed hiking the entire length of the Wisconsin Ice Age Trail--about 1200 miles--many of those miles on her "new" knee. Abe, I think, also has had good experiences with joint replacement surgeries. You could be planning your next project while doing the post surgery rehab. Everyone here enjoys watching you work. LOL.

To be honest I should have quit with the projects after the pickup, many times regret starting this one. Wouldn't be so bad if I had more room to park the finished ones..i should have stayed with making wooden models that way I'd have room for more...lol
I have extra space to store your trucks. And I will even take them out once in a while for exercise, just to make sure they still work. All this at no cost to you. Just offering. That would solve most of the storage issues.
