It's not so much that there are that many new cases every day, but that they are doing more testing and the results are coming back positive. Also, for the record. There aren't test shortages. They are everywhere. It's the same test they use for strep and herpes and everything else. My mother works at a testing clinic and they have tons of the tests on hand. A lot of them they don't even use, they just have a ton in inventory. The lack of tests is a narrative, not sure whose though. I'll concede that the coming days will be telling, but I don't know that anyone can convince me that this isn't a political pandemic.
Missed a whole day of posting! I'm behind on my mass mailing too. Been having too much fun staying home with the kiddo I guess. We're still up, she's got youtube to catch up on and I've ignored the forums for a couple of hours. She went to bed early last night, was worried she was sick. Looks like I shouldn't have let her sleep 14 hours.
We keep large quantities of the fun kids ones on hand. I use them too, they seem to stick the best. I need to finish playing with my truck and put the engine back together tonight. Working on trying to measure the lift on the cam in relation to crank timing. I have the numbers for a stock cam. Just trying to see if that matches up. I figure it's a stock cam, but I don't know. Last time I tried my numbers were in gibberish, didn't fit at all so I need to do it at least one more time to confirm its not something crazy. I hooked an inline pump up to the fuel line to steal about a half gallon of gas for the mower. Got dark before I finished so I need to finish up tomorrow. Still need to put a ceiling up over the front door. Birds are pulling insulation out of the house and trying to next above the door. They're either terrible at it or they are destroying each other's nests as they are being built. Either way it's a fresh mess on the welcome mat every day and the womenfolks are complaining. Got a lot of cleaning up to do, parts organizing as well. There have been complaints about my piles of boxes with parts in on or around them. Hopefully it'll be nice out again tomorrow.
Looks like another beautiful day. I slept in and I'm considering a nap. Was up until after 2 putting the truck back together so I can retune the carb and drive it today.
Got the carb set again, she runs really good. Temp gauge still reads high and I haven't got around to verifying what it's saying. That's another project I'll be doing soon. I'm about to take the truck for a drive then get back to yard work.
Had a fun drive. Went to the store and made a loop around town. Throttle response is really good, doesn't shift good though, but the modulator is bad so not unexpected. It drove a lot different this time than it did last time. I think I have the carb set better and I fixed a vacuum leak. One of the vacuum hoses shifted so it was sitting against the EGR base and melted through in two places. She's about desperate for shocks. I know the fronts are dead, figure the rear are as well. She wobbles something fierce, bump steer isn't too bad, but it's bad enough. I think the next parts are going to be a shift modulator then shocks. Not sure when I'm going to replace the rear brakes. Not much wear, but I have a warped drum and it's noticeable. Still have to do the front hubs and wheel bearings. Nothing wrong with them that I know of, but I have replacements on hand. Looks like it's about to rain.
Just finished the brakes and drums on the 70' and you're making me want to go for a test drive now! All drums with new master.
Also replaced the carb with a rebuilt and the distributor and running well, after being unable to move when I got it 8 weeks ago. Great seeing progress!!
BTW, what is the symptom of a bad modulator valve? Mine shifts hard and just removed the pan and changed the filter cause it had leaked so much the pan was barely visable. Looks like its the rear seal tho...
I tested mine with a vacuum pump, it wouldn't hold vacuum until enough fluid leaked into it. Both of those are symptoms. Sometimes they leak bad enough you'll get trans fluid at the vacuum tree. I've heard some people saying when they laid on the throttle they'd get a puff of bluish smoke, which I figure means it was leaking a lot. I still haven't got it in my head what the modulator controls. If yours doesn't leak and it holds vacuum, you can try adjusting it. Should be an allen screw in the nipple just like a vacuum advance can that allows you to adjust how it shifts, can't remember which is which, but I think turning it in gives you firmer shifts and out gives you softer shifts, but it may just control when it shifts. The rear seal isn't too bad, if you have something to drive it in with. I didn't have anything so I just went around the edges with a ball peen hammer. Which surprisingly enough worked. Doesn't look pretty but it doesn't leak. My shift shaft seal didn't go so good. Tore the first one, had to run to town to get another because I gave my spare to a friend of mine. The second one went in just fine but leaks worse than the old one did. Looks like I need to sleeve it. O-ring behind the Neutral safety switch leaks as well, but that's much easier to replace.
Did you replace all of the brakes, or just put a new hardware kit in, and I assume shoes along with drums?
Just a post to say I'm still around LOL. Hopefully I will be able to get serious about putting my 460 back together the first of next week. Stay safe all.
