My EGR is for sure functional now. Ride was for sure different this time. Can't tell how though. Truck has a lot of rattles that are hard to place. Back sliding glass is one for sure. I think the passenger door internals are another. Kind of sounded like the bed too. I checked it when I got home and it feels like there's either a lot of flex, or the passenger front is loose. I need to pull it back off and put some kind of bushing material between the bed and frame. Neither truck had any when I pulled the beds, but I think I've seen people go back with it. Body lines are ok, so I don't want to use anything thick. May wait until I get some late model bed bolts and speed nuts for the frame. Exhaust is loose at the rear hanger and rattles like a door stop. Going to try and sneak it over to the city's shop tonight or tomorrow and weld it up really quick. They cut the exhaust loose from the stock hanger and welded on an exhaust clamp. It was loose so after I got the exhaust hooked back up I went to try and tighten it and immediately snapped a leg off the u bolt. Didn't take any torque at all to do it either. So I'm going to cut the u bolt off the hanger and weld it straight to the pipe. The hanger unbolts from the frame if I ever need to drop the exhaust, so not sure why they added the clamp.
Yeah, I still need to give it a proper going over, but I reset the choke cap so she starts again and what emissions stuff I have is functional for now. I've just been too lazy to verify the bowl vent valve, choke settings, and cap all the vacuum ports so I can re tune the carb and check it with a propane enrichment test. I was just explained how to use the lifters and dampener to see if I have a stock cam. May do that later.
Alright guys, going to post this here as I don't think it's complete enough for the buy sell trade thread, and it will get more traffic here. Guy in a facebook group has a 4.9l he says needs the crank ground, vibrates a lot and he's going through starters. I asked him about it and he said he needs to sell the whole truck to get a new one. Said he could scrap the truck, looking to get maybe $400 for the motor, says he's got an hei distributor and offy intake he's willing to sell, says motor has rv cam in it. Not sure what truck it's in, but it's an 80-86 based on the group. Anyone interested? I can pass your info along if you want to dicker with him. Facebook says he's in Lowell I think.
@daltonjamesadams I know you were looking for one, someone else was too, but I don't remember who.
I knew an Offenhauser intake would come available after I dropped the 351 in my truck.
oh well I dropped the 351 in yesterday. Everything is buttoned up on the bottom. I wasn’t expecting to get to do this, this weekend so I didn’t have radiator hoses or belts. I’m going to town in a bit for those.
all I’ll lack then is a new Distributor and a new carb.
I have an old 4100 I’ve been saving for this project only to find its junk.
gonna buy new.
cant decide 1850 Holley or Edelbrock???
any opinions for a stock EFI 351w converted to carb???
What's wrong with the 4100? I haven't got my hands on a 351 yet, but it's on the wishlist. Maybe I'll find a nearly free bronco with one in it. I know the guys down in the bullnose section are very opinionated on the carb, but I can't ever find their threads discussing them when I need to. I think there is more guys advocating holley than their is edelbrock. I haven't seen anything on eldelbrock carbs as far as setting them up or tuning them, but I've seen a lot of holley videos and they seem to be somewhat user friendly and near infinitely adjustable.
I pulled the valve cover off my truck last night, looking like a stock cam, but I have a few more measurements to take before I put it back together. It's nice to finally have some idea of how the motor was put together.

I have a 351w in a 92 parts truck. Have been thinking of gathering parts to make it carbed. I have run a edelbrock on my 64 chevy for years now. Easy to tune, simple to work on.
Nice day today. Was expecting it to be a bit colder, but it's warm out. Heard something interesting last night. My mother works at a lab, they do a lot of drug screens and similar tests. They pick up specimens from doctors and clinics and process them to go to labs to be tested. All of their employees are required to print of a document stating who they work for and that they may be transporting covid-19 specimens to be tested and that their right of free travel is necessary in this crisis. So basically they were issued a travel license. Which makes me think it's going to get a lot worse at there.
Got woke up about 4-5 this morning to lighting and thunder. How rude. According to the radio had .66 inches at seven and its still coming. Might have to invest in some life jackets.
Hope everyone else is doing good today.
