Well, nothing changed for me after the update. SYNC screen still says build 17276. Are you saying that it takes 30-40 minutes for the SYNC screen to reflect the change, or were you referring to the time it takes for the USB stick to do its thing? This is frickin' ridiculous.
Yes, I sat in the driveway with the truck idling for 30-40 minutes while the USB stick loaded onto the truck. Pretty sure I had a 2.0 USB stick. After the screen (finally) said the upgrade was complete, I turned off the truck and then re-started it, and it showed version 19205.
And I agree - it is a pretty lengthy process to have to go through to update the software. My truck is connected to the home wifi with good connectivity, but doesn't seem to want to do the updates via wifi.

You don't need to have the engine running. I did all the updates with just the key on. Even when I formatted it , I had no engine. The screen kept itself open for at least an hour even with no key and locked until I came back with the correct files.
So yeah , when you update the screen won't even turn off , so no need to waste fuel
The maps are updated and cost more than 100$
Also you now have navigation in the cluster screen with Android auto.
I don't have Ford Navigation (for a good reason). I do like AA and Google maps, would it display on my IPC even though I don't have Ford's nav? If so, you have the best reason I've heard yet.
Spent several hours today testing this new version and have no issues to report. I can't speak for Android and AA, but CarPlay and the Apple eco-system work great. I tested all visible functions with and without my iPhone 11 Pro Max attached and did not have any issues. I did not test Sat or USB based media. I did hear that media playback from USB still has challenges. My experience is that the interface is crisper and more responsive. Highly recommended for 3.4 users!

Im not entirely sure since I do have navigation but maybe someone could chime in about that.
I'm still struggling with why to upgrade from v3.0 to v3.4. Someone sell me as to why.
My honest response is that I would not recommend the upgrade unless you currently have something that's broke or there's features that you want/need or can't live without :-) Sounds like you have a non-NAV system so that's a challenge because non-NAV has half the memory of NAV. This complicates the install and, so far, has required a complete reformat and install for upgrades within 3.4 (PITA).
With the above said I have ZERO regrets going from 3.0 to 3.4 as I solved several issues. Maps update. CarPlay issues. Sync responsiveness. I keep Sync in the night mode and have no complaints.

Thanks Leon. Nothing is broken on my system and like mentioned, I'm struggling on what features/enhancements I would get. From what I've read, regardless of Nav or not, reformat is required to go from v3.0 to v3.2 or greater. No big deal there. Also, there are installs specific for non-Nav systems so the space isn't a concern either. One bullet that deters me is loss of USB browsing.
I'm hearing that there's an update to the map and voice data files on Ford's servers. No details yet, but this is not the official release of the files as of yet. I'm giving this some time before taking any action.

Thought I'd update my post regarding my attempt to update SYNC 3.0 using my 32 GB Samsung USB 3,1 Flash Drive to the latest build (19205). It turns out that it was successful after all. Guess the truck just needed to rest overnight, because this morning when I started it and checked the SYNC version I saw this:
I'm not sure why it took awhile to indicate that it had worked, but it did. Thanks to all on FTE who offered help in this process.

Is your truck brand new or do you just like having that plastic film over the SYNC screen.
Not brand new, but kind of used it as a screen protector; it's off now.
Lol.....I was just teasing with you but I can understand wanting to protect it.
I’m sure you’ve seen these but if not and just like for a cell phone, you can purchase a screen protector for the SYNC screen on Amazon and they’re very inexpensive.
