I'm a MAC user as well and am considering do the update. I tried to format my USD drives is disc utility and have found that it will only format to MS-DOS FAT, not MS-DOS FAT32. Is that an issue?

Just a heads up for Non-Nav owners (2017 F450 owner here) who are going to try the update from Sync 3 to Sync 3.4 and read the instructions in the link to the F150 forum mentioned in a previous post. I did the update a couple weeks ago using Tricons files and also never saw an update completed message after inserting USB 3. Sync updated and it showed I was on Sync 3.4 and everything worked fine. I did not realize that I was on version 19200 and that due to a memory storage capacity issue I never actually updated to the latest Sync version (19274) after inserting USB 3. After reading other posters having a similar experience and reading the thread in the F150 forum I learned I had to modify USB 2 using a file from the USB 3 folder to actually get the latest update. The instructions given in the F150 forum are incorrect if you are using the files from Tricons download (they might be correct for the files from the F150 forum). The instructions tell you to remove a file with a .CB extension and replace it with the file from USB 3 and then edit the .LST file to reflect the change. This is incorrect. You should replace the file with a .CD extension not .CB. The file you are substituting in USB 2 is the Apps file not the Voice file in USB 2. I have attached two photos that show the correct files for USB 2 Non-Nav owners. The update uses the original USB 1 stick and the modified USB 2 stick. There is no USB 3 stick used because of this modification. My truck updated to Sync 3.4 ver. 19274 after this modification. Hope this helps and clarifies the procedure for others.

By strict definition, FAT is an older implementation of FAT32. I don't know if the Sync system will read FAT, but my guess it that it will but I don't think FAT will make use of a USB drive over 16 GB, but I could be wrong. Where you get into trouble is trying to deviate from the "normal" disk format parameters. On my first try, I thought I would be smart and increase the allocation unit size since I was putting very large files on the USB drive. Sync didn't like that and wouldn't read my USB drive. Take the defaults.
You're better off using a two USB install strategy. The non-Nav does not have enough memory to use the 3 USB install method in most cases. I have a Nav myself, but what I've seen non-Nav owners doing is replacing the *.CB file with the *.CJ file (current version). Make sure you edit the text in the *.LST file in USB 2 to reflect the file change.

See my post just above yours...you should replace the .CD file not the .CB file.
My MBP running Catalina 10.15.2 only has lightning ports and I'm using an adapter....maybe that has something to do with it? I ended up using my wife's Chromebook and got them formatted...and yes, my hands burned the ENTIRE time.

Consider getting yourself a few of these in the future: SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive USB Type-C. USB A and C. Can't believe how cheap these things are now!

Edit: I looked at my USB2 files. All match except the voice file which is explained in a post to swap out.
I don't subscribe to Sirius but when I choose sources for audio it shows Sirius with the logo. Iheart radio logo also appears as a choice since I have it on my phone.
