You can use the first folder to update the firmware on your APIM module, but 99.9% of you will not have the hardware to do this, and its completely unnecessary to get the update. You need FORD's IDS or similar (FORscan won't do this and you need a $500 adapter to do it anyways) to accomplish this and you can brick the device if you do not know what you are doing. So just pretend its not there. Do the 3 USB sticks and you'll have everything you need.
Anyone aware of any downsides to updating? I know there's risk, but does everything work once done? Anticipated issues with future updates?
Thanks!
edit: heres my thread from about a week ago where I did this. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-software.html
some people had voice issues but it worked after they did a master reset.
Everything has worked since I did mine, look for my thread we all had a pretty good discussion in here. as for future updates youll be able to update further but this is most likely the last major update for the sync 3 system, the rest will be minor changes etc.
Just did SYNC updates on my daughters' 10' Fusion and the wife's Explorer. Just FYI, Windows 10 no longer has the FAT32 format option and you will need to find a 3rd party software to format your thumb drive.
We can do this on older cars? My wife has a 2015 edge ..
Yes. My wife's Explorer is a 2013. Register your Ford vehicles with the VIN here: Official Ford Owners Site
The site will tell you if there is a SYNC update available and list any outstanding recalls.
