K. Couldn't remember if it was a 6 or V-8.
So original filter is in the pump.
Yeah there wasn't one. I added one before the pump and also got the pump changed. Not only does it go down the road better, but the idle smoothed out. I'm calling it fixed until the next thing.
The fuel pump that was on there for 78 (motor was donated from a 78) did not have a canister, though the one you posted looks like it would work. It is a sealed unit.
The filter I used is just a basic inline filter. I've got to reroute some fuel lines at some point so I will probably put a glass one on there. It is running so much better now after the pump replacement.
JJ,
Opps, I forgot you have a transplanted 300 6cylinder engine in your truck.... I was thinking it was a 352 v8.
I don't know if the pumps would interchange or not.....
What condition was the insides of the fuel tank? Was it rusty or no? Do you feel you got it pretty well cleaned out?
In my quest to gather parts for this truck and get it back to where it came from, mostly anyway, I had decided to go with steelies and beauty rings/caps. Not a choice I ever, ever, ever thought I would make. It just fits this though and I like them much better than the early 90's wheels that dad put on it. I found these local and will be picking them up next weekend on my way to mom's house as the guy is right on the way. Best part is $50 is getting the deal done. They will be red when all is said and done.

These trim (beauty) rings were originally installed on 1940/48 Ford/Mercury Passenger Cars. Both 15" and 16" were available.
JJ,
I'll bet those wheels/rings/caps will look SWEET on your ol' Slick!
Will you use the same tires you have or buy new tires?
Is it safe to say the current wheels are likely off the same '78 van that donated it's 300" engine?
They look to be in decent shape; you should be able to flip them for some cash towards offsetting other expenses......
Unfortunately the tires on it are 235 and the new rims are 15x5. I'll end up going with a 215 probably. Once I put it up for the winter, I'll sell off the 235's to pay for the new ones.
The power steering pump is now rebuilt and working great. This took care of the biggest leak on the truck and got rid of the noise the pump was making. On to the next thing.
