Well got the motor that I’m using the timing cover and oil pan off of on engine stand. Going to try to get it tore down rest of way this week also going to try to get a timing cover gasket set this week from my ford parts supplier. And a oil pan gasket and dipstick adapter ordered to. That way I can get the timing cover and oil pan swapped to my new motor. Hopefully businesses picks up enough to allow me to have enough cash to get this thing done in next few months.
Really consider just pulling those heads and dropping off at a good machinist for a valve job, at 260k mine are beat to ****. I used OEM stem seals, green ones. And do not just toss the springs on, spend the time to shim them correctly. You are already engine out and going to stud it. Did you do a compression test on that SD engine before buying? Make sure it does not have a weak hole. One of the other guys is doing bottom end on here, I will try to find his thread for you.
Consider a Fluidampr, engine is super smooth all the way from idle to redline. I love mine.
Definitely plan on shimming the springs correctly as far as sd engine having weak hole I’m sure it has several it would shoot the oil cap off at a idle and hit bottom of hood. I’m just using parts off it I’m converting my spare motor over to 99 up timing cover. The sd motor came out of my sd f550 rollback.
Definitely would like to get a fluid damper. My main to problems with this build is money and I don’t have spare rig to drive. So anything I do has to be done where I’ve still got a ride. So I’m considering a spare rig which will set this build back further lol. I’ve got 5 good 7.3s and 3 rebuildable engines among the tons of other parts I’ve got. I believe it may be a addiction lol.
Well think I found my spare rig me and my brother where working on it but kinda got busy and put it on the back burner. But today I rolled it in threw frontend in and dropped a engine in it. Gotta get trans pulled out of one of my parts trucks. Should be pretty neat 05 axle swapped 2door short bed lowered 4x4. For now it’ll be bone stock minus exhaust and intake.
Well got a trans pulled out of one of my parts trucks no pics I’ll get them tomorrow. When we bought truck non running po never heard it run said po had had trans rebuilt. Which it is painted up and fluid is very clean we managed to get truck running. It turned out it needs injector orings. Anyway once we got it pulled out we found a tag with number and business name probably gonna call Monday. See what we can find out.
Well guys been a bit was putting all the extra time into mine and my brothers 2door short bed. Then we have been busy with shop work cutting wood and we just bought a 01 7.3 that needed a little work to fix and sell. So now 2door short bed is on back burner till we get this truck fixed and sold. But on another note I pulled hydra off my truck had to let my littlest brother borrow my truck. And well just don’t trust him that much but wow been a while since I’ve drove it without a chip it’s guttless. Been driving it a few days and it’s interesting to get used to. But I’m sure 35s and 3:73 don’t help any at all oh well. Anyway while we have the 2001 truck let’s me get some work done on my truck going to swap water pump lpop seal and get boost leak fixed and hopefully install intercooler. I’ll keep you guys posted on progress.
Also tired of not having 4x4 due to not being able to find correct conversion u joint so I ordered a yoke for a 96 Dana 60 to see if it’ll work on my 05 Dana 60 which I believe it will.
Well guys this hole u joint thing is getting old can’t seem to even get the correct size yoke for a 96 F350 front axle. Both that came in are wrong called a couple u joint places that I found online. One gave me a part number to a moog 448 joint ordered it hopefully it’s right really ready to have 4x4 again and working correctly.
