My local DMV is getting crowded. There were at least five people there the last time I went in! LOL
Same here, when I go to get my tags renewed, I get upset if there is not an attendant open and I have to wait... Sometimes 1 of the 3 DMV employees are at lunch or something.
For the times I do have to go to the DMV (e.g. renew driver's license) I make an appointment. You to have a LOT of forethought as the soonest one you can find is uisually 3-4 weeks away.
The DMV is worse than Wal-Mart. If you have an appointment you'll probably be there 1-2 hours depending on what you need to do. If you don't have an appointment you have to wait in line for 1-2 hours just to get into the place then another 1-2 hours to get your business done.
I'm sure if they incentivized the employees it might be better. Maybe give them a small bonus above XX customers helped during a shift. As it stands now they get paid the same if they help 5 people or 50 people. It also doesn't help that almost nobody is prepared for their transactions then argue with the attendand for 20 minutes before leaving anyway. Add that up for everybody there and I play a lot of Angry Birds (or surf FTE) when I'm there.
Did the OP ever get through the registration process? I am still dumbfounded by the whole smog thing and could go on for days about how its has turned into a circus. Hopefully someday this gets resolved for everybodys sake.

Yes I did. Took several trips to the guy that failed me but got it done. My son had the same problem. Told him not to go to that guy even though he is the guy we've used for years. He gets 38.25 extra when he does finely pass you. He told me only the cost of the certificate the first time.
"He gets 38.25 extra when he does finely pass you."
If I am reading you correctly this sound a little flaky to me. Are you saying he tests for free the first go-round but charges for a retest? What if it passes the first go-round, he just charges for the CERT?
No, he charged $50.oo the first time, then tells you it failed. He then said it would be certificate only fee' for retest. Well that changed to 38.25 . They got you, I could of went some where else but it would of been more.
You can also pay up front for a retest at some shops. It's about about $75 or so. If you think it's going to fail the first go round that "saves you a few bucks" in the long run. That buys you a test, re-test, and certificate (provided you pass on the second try).
The best part is that if you pass on the first try there's no refund.
Not a ripoff by the state here in PA, but if you drive less than 5000 miles/year, you're exempt from the emissions test, saving you about $35. But I think most garages run the test no matter what.
