I grew up in the Santa Clara valley area. Back in the 60's if you drove an open sports car MG, TR3 your hair would literally stick together from the smog gunk. When it was extra bad you could not see the mountains from the middle of the valley. Been a few years since I have been down that way, but I can tell you it is way better now.
Haha..i remember the Tornado..way back!
1 fire and there goes 5yrs of car/truck pollution control in CA. Take the money thats spent on keeping their thumbs on us and invest in putting the cons on the front line and whack down the hills/mountains if fueled brushes..wow, theres a thought.
Damn Stew..wanna part with 1 of them cps....WHISKEY, all you want!
As a gear head it’s easy to ridicule CA until you consider the big picture, I grew up in southern CA in the 70’s when the air was actually orange and as kids we couldn’t go outside on some days and even on the best days if you played hard your lungs would burn. Now as an adult I travel to places like Mexico City and China where the smog is worse then Los Angles in the 70’s. As a human living on this planet I am thankful for what CA has done to reduce smog even though at times it is a total PITA and makes my hobby of building cars more challenging.
Take me a deep breath, if your lungs do not burn you can thank the CA Air Quality Board.
Amen brother, been here since '72 and I remember the orange & brown skies and hurting lungs.
I just wish they would have more logical rules. Among the other tons of retardation; it's illegal to install extra emissions control stuff onto a vehicle. Adding a cat to a non-catalyst car would make it WAY cleaner running, but that's illegal. If you wanna do an engine swap from an old high polluter to something newer and cleaner you gotta jump through a bunch of hoops to make it legal, despite it being way cleaner running. It's also illegal to swap an older engine into a newer car no matter what the emissions of that motor are. Logic would dictate that they sniff the exhaust, test the gas tank venting system for leaks, and be done.
Okay guys I worked on this today. My Birthday is tomorrow so I wanted to get it out of the way. Didn't happen. I decided to pull the chip. Brad gave me a new cord so I thought I would pull it and install the new cord when I passed. Well, Now I have check engine light . There was no key in the ignition, truck runs well for no chip. Don't know how you guys without chips like this set up. I guess I've had mine to long. So I pulled the PCM. John Woods installed it with the trans. The bolt was loose, PCM there for was loose. But I had no problems to this date. One other thing, I first pulled the 10 mm bolt to the left of this one, the wrong plug. I unplugged it then then put it back. This is where there are three plugs kind of on top of each other. Did this cause the check engine light? I plan to discount the batteries tomorrow to see, but not counting on it to work. I've done a lot to this truck over the years, but I never did the chip so this is my fault. It's a DP tuner F5. When I reinstalled it the light wasn't on till I drove out the drive way. Boy what problems. If I can't figure it out, I'll have to have it scanned again. Can't seem to get my terminator scan gauge to read codes. I bought these head lights from a guy named Tony on the 6.0 section and they started to shut my truck off when turning them on at idle, the reason for the new DP cord. They look good but don't like how they have to warm up. Just my opinion.
WTH .... according to your last scan the monitors were set to “ready” and would have passed the OBD portion of the smog test..... should have monkeyed with it after passing smog
My current smog challenge is a Porsche 928 with an LT1 motor. It has to go to a "state referee" inspection for extra deep scrutinizing. If it passes it'll get a new emissions sticker, then the bienniel inspections will be done based on the LT1 instead of the car at any normal smog shop.
Schwing!! Next time you need some cash style fluidity shoot me a PM.

Dude get yo sef Torque Pro on your cell and scan for the P1000, not ready to test code. If there drive it a few days under various conditions. I'm pretty sure disconnecting the batteries is a problem in this regard, so keep 'em hooked up until the P1000 is gone.
These lights HIDs? You'll need an RF choke on the DP cord to make them play nice with the DP F5. Ask me how I know.
The cable I gave him had the chokes on it, but it might still be possible for the HIDs to trip a code.
Chet, until you pass the smog test, I’d suggest leaving the lights off. Even with the chokes on my old cable, I’d get a little hiccup once in while when turning the headlights on. Never had any codes though.
Thank you Tim.
I didn't know they were HID's till I bought them. I bought everything together from Tony on the 6.0 section. That point wasn't advertised. Okay, I did discount the batteries today then drove about 50 miles. Everything looked fine. I got fuel, eat then went back. He put some little scanner on it then asked why it wouldn't start. He changed scanners and same thing then showed a glow plug code. Wouldn't you know. As soon as he takes out his scanner and you pull the key out, put it back in and it starts right up. So now he says you have two codes. Well I have to go to San Marcos tomorrow so no work on it. Friday and Saturday we have the grand kids so not sure what I'll get done. I have a flip phone so Torq pro is out for me. I did the left side some years back and I do have the glow plugs and harnesses for the right if I can get around to it. I'll have to test the relay first. That's what mine has. Thing is, I had the relay replaced on the road in Wyoming years back and they took the stint off, said it wasn't needed. It was Ford that did it to. It starts right up, but it isn't cold here yet. I'm really not happy but I have to get it right. Again, the check engine light only came on after I pulled the chip. It was off till we went to dinner tonight.
