Hello Carlene. I'm new to this site as of today. My name is Charlie, I have a 50 PU and it is a project. Found this site and like what I read, and look forward to help in my project and my provide help with what I know.
I'm new here so bear with me.
Looking for hints on modifying my (new to me) 1957 F100 truck.
It has a 272 Cu in V8 with a Fordomatic Auto trans too.
It has those crawling gears and I really would like to swap out Highway gears most likely 280-300 ratio in the 9" rear.
I hear Ford 9" rear ends are the easiest to work on, but perhapos someon can assist me with information on used or remanufactured spline and other gears nec.
This truck is really nice and solid and everything else works just fine. So if you could assist me I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks and have a Great Day!
I can't speak for anyone but myself. I would look for a set that is already done. The "pumpkin" unit itself takes but less than an hour to change. Find a complete "pumpkin" unit which has the ratio you desire, and swap them out.
I personally would not go through the effort of buying a new gear set, and having them installed in your 3rd member. This rear end unit is so beefy, and lasts so long, you could probably get the set you want from a wrecking yard, and be money and time ahead of the game.
Kenneth Kvittum from the great state of Oklahoma, project 47 1/2t out with the old in with the new , currently looking to drop the flathead and install 302-C4
Have other Ford Projects
Howdy, I'm James from Arizona. My oldest friend is a 1941 Ford 1 1/2 ton pickup. I've been restoring him bit by bit since I found him In crystola Colorado back in 1990.
Southern California here. I have a restored 1943 ford navy cargo truck. It's a great truck. I am on this site to find out as much as I can about this truck because I know absolutely nothing about it. So any information that anyone can supply will be greatly appreciated.

Reason: add my roll call
Aloha! I'm Malcolm Makua from Hilo Hawaii. I have a 38 1/2 truck that picked up in Washington, NC in 1997. I put the cab and box on a 39 frame and instead of the flathead, I adapted a 350 chevy motor to the 3 speed. In Aug 1999, I drove from Hatteras, NC to Los Angelos, CA. (mostly on I-40) and then shipped it to Hilo hawaii. Here in Hilo, it seems everyone knows me as the guy that drives the old truck, with the surfboard on the rack. Again Aloha to y'all.
Geeeze! Thought that I had given my intro. Anyhow......... been into cars since 1949 and currently drive a 1951 Ford Vicky hardtop and have a 40 Ford Pickup; 56 Ford Pickup and 53 Ford Tudor in the shop as projects. The 56 F-100 is black with wide whites, white upholstery and white tonneau cover.
If I can help anyine, drop me a note at tufftin@crestview cable.com.
Hello I'm howdy71475 (real name Howdy) I am an ametuer restorer of old iron. I currently am working on a 47 tonner, a 47 comm with duals and a stake bed, a 61 short and wide unibody, a 51 IHC L120, and many more projects waiting te get started. Have been doing this kind of thing for quite a while and am always happy to help.
In '03 I bought my 'dream truck', a '40 Ford COE cab/chassis, 134" wheelbase, 2-spd (5.83/8.11) rear, later ('46-47) grille and '46-48 59AB flathead. Ex- Humble Oil tanker truck (tank & equipment long gone). Ran fine in '03, since then I am most of the way thru refurbishing the fuel, ignititon, cooling & brake systems. Body is all there with limited rot & some banged-up fenders. Intend to leave the chassis bare and the cosmetics alone but make it roadable- looking for limited road time later this summer.
Have a 47 Ford Panel, 1 1/2 ton I think. Tons of springs!
We're rebuilding it, nixed the front axle opting for a Mustang II front end kit. That lowered it real nice. Pulled 5 Leafs and dropped the back-end about 2-3 ".
Has a 302 basically stock but fresh, haven't even started it yet.
Primary reason I'm here is I found the site looking for aftermarket turn signals for the front.

Hello Carlene,
This is Robert from Houton, Texas and I am building a 1941 1/2 ton pick up, this is my first Ford to do, but I am having a blast. I don't know all that much about these old Fords, that is why I joined this group, thought there would be a great deal of info here, I was right.

Welcome, my name is Robert and I have a 41 truck too. Mine is a Sedan Delivery. They do share the same chassis though not much else. Good Luck with your pickup.
