It's front half will be a phaeton (because that's all I got when I bought it on eBay). The *rear* half will be a transverse engine/transaxle unit. I'd like to keep it all Ford, but, the Taurus FWD tranny doesn't inspire confidence. I'll probably go with Fiero rear components, actually to make it easy.
I don't know if I can help you much in your Restro Project since our '41 is a 1/2 ton, but if there's anything I can't help with, theres plenty others here that can.
Good luck with your newly acquired project and if you don't mind, create a photo gallery so we can all see what you have and how you're coming along with it.
Have a '42 wartime truck in South Africa. Hope to start the resto next month - motor turns - some stuck valves - not serious - no load bay but that's no prob - might make a custom load body for booze cruises !!!! Sounds interesting hey !!!
Hey Everybody...just purchased a 1947 Panel truck...drove from NC to KY to get it. Once it's up and running we'll be using it to deliver coffee. I hope it will be happy going back to work.
The fella we got it from put a Chevy 307 in it. That will probably have to come out soon...just hate the thought of it being in there.
I'd love to hear what all of you would choose to install....keep in mind that it doesn't matter to me if the whole thing is stock original, just all Ford.
Maybe just a 5.0 out of a Mustang.
There is quite a bit of aftermarket support for it, too.
But build it close to stock to make the project to quickly and easily, and to make the end product reliable and environmentally responsible.
You wouldn't want to add to the coffee aroma with a polluting exhaust.

great idea!!! My name is Brian, I live in New Zealand and use a '46 1/2 ton pickup as my daily driver. Over here these models are affectionately known as jailbars on account of the grill. Mine is powered with relieved '39 Merc motor,3/4 cam, twin carbs, finned heads, through the stock [for now] 3 speed to a Columbia 2 speed diff. Good truck, and this looks like a good site.
I'm Mitch C from Indiana...am taking on my 1st old Ford PU proj.. 41 1/2 ton... Thinking about putting in on a 1998 Ranger frame, since it has indep. front susp and rack & pinion steering. Anyone have info on how well the cab fits on this generation of Ranger? Have owned Fords since my first car - 47 Club Coupe.. most recent is a BB 64 Fairlane Thunderbolt Clone..
hey everybody thanks for the welcome, i have a 41' ford pick-up and started a "from the ground up street rod adventure", I'll keep everybody informed of any new findings that I make
Hey gang, Mike G here (from Colorado). Two trucks in the works for now. I have a 1965 F100 and my dad is working a 1937 1-1/2 ton. He plans on going original(ish), mine has a .060 over 390 and C6 being massaged for future abuse. We both previously worked over a 57 custom cab as my first truck (yes that was long ago...)
Hi I'm John, I have a '40 1/2ton (lots-o-rust) I'm putting it on a '99 Ranger frame. at present I'm building a chassie cradle so I can clean and paint, then I'll put the cab on it to do the body work. Plan on Mustang 5.0 running gear, but that will be down the road abit. I live in Beavercreek Ohio, just outside of Dayton. If anyone had a good clean cab and doors I would be interested.
It is my understanding that cab and doors from 1940-1947 pickups are interchangable... widen your search and you may have some luck...sorry I can't be of additional help..
John,
Mitch is correct on the cab years. I have a 41 purchaced for parts for my 42 and the cabs are the same. I knew 42 to 47 were the same already. Not sure about the gauges however.
