Hi, I am working on a '41 stakebed with a 6" cab stretch. i bought it with a 3/4 chev front clip done and rear axle; 454, which is being sold to get back to Ford. Plans include a efi 300 6 (love that split manifold)/C6, steel wheels, a daily driver. Past Fords, '28 sedan/15 years old; '49 lead sled/16 years old; '55 merc hardtop/17 years old; 66 fairlane gt/19 years old; '56 wrap/25 years old; '67 galaxie hardtop/30 years old; '28 pickup w/V6/C4/40 years old; currently F350/just old, 7.3, "Ford" through and thru.
I'm Fix. I own a 1941 1/2 ton and am currently working on a 1946 1/2 ton.
I fix everything, and use anything I can find to build the truck I want. I expect to finish this truck for under $4000. That includes the new chasis, body work, wheels and interior. I am setting the whole body on a 1988 four wheel drive Ranger chasis. It will have AC, cruise control, and power steering.
I wonder what the rest of the members think about my project. I have had alot of complaints from local people about not using the factory frame and suspension (although most people have over $3000 in upgrades to thier brakes and springs) I welcoms any coments or complaints. Go ahead, let me have it. I can take it.
I'm working on a 40 on a 2003 Ranger std cab 2wd chassis and am using the stock V6, auto, and independant suspension with lowering kit. Body is being channeled over frame to get a more reasonable stance.. The 03's wheelbase is almost exactly the same as the 40..
Do you have pics of the frame channels in the cab floor.
The 46 will be tall enough since its four wheel drive that I shouldn't have to lower the cab any, but I am considering a future 2003/2005 ranger frame swap for the 41 if everything goes well with the 46.
I would be very interested in seeing how you aproached this.
I'm keeping the fuel injected four cylinder engine in this truck, but I will probably upgrade it with turbo in the future. this is going to be my daily driver and I will need the fuel milage.
hi im bob i have a 46 1 1/4 starting on it this fall has a six in it upgrading to a 390 five speed and 2 speed axle all the sheet metal is clean and complete and straight glass and interior need to be done picked it up at a farm auction for 500 dollors
hi bob, i'm al, sounds like a good project, good deal, i like the 46 big trucks, great grills, smile.
my project is a '41 1 ton stakebed that has had it's cab lengthened 6" in the doors, you have to look real close to see the change. it came with a chev 3/4 ton front end grafted to the original frame and the 3/4 chev rear axle on leaf springs. we are mounting it on a '92 ford van frame, 300 6 w/auto overdrive. we plan to widen the cab and hood, fenders to make it wider and fit the chassis. it will be a rat rod, very little paint or chrome, as i like the trend.
good luck on your project, stay in touch. al
My 40 1/2 ton on an '03 std wheel base Ranger project is in a holding pattern.. Cab is mounted, using the floorpan and firewall of the Ranger (had to section the pan, since internal cab area of the Ranger is larger). Am using the rear cab mounts of the ranger and front mounts of the 40 cab.. In doing this, I will be moving the V6 back about 7", giving more clearance in the front of the engine compartment.. Hope to get back on the project later this fall and thru the winter... Will load pictures around Thanksgiving.
sounds great, hope you get back to it. i need to sell my old shovelhead harley to finish up the '41 stakebed, which is a little sad, but i really want to drive the stakebed next spring. priorities, right
