I've had the same issue. My truck started to download a new file, so I thought that there was an update. I checked my version on the Ford website and I'm already updated. My opinion is that Ford does not know how to do software. I sick of my truck defaulting to an FM station I don't llsten to, Waze locking up continually if I get a phone call, telling me daily that it can connect to a wifi system, etc. Its time they fix this stuff or I'm not buying their crap again.
1000% Agree. This is the best truck I've owned but they hired the cheapest or stupidest developers on the planet for the software. I wish they'd release the source code so I could at least fix my damn head unit.
They will never release the source code. As for the developers, they do what the spec calls for. That’s what they get paid for and that’s all they do. Would you spend unpaid time doing your job?
Do they do a good job of debugging and fixing the code. Nope. Just feel lucky we are getting updates. My 2013 Fusion got one, and only one update. Ford was moving forward and dumping Microsoft. I still have stuff in that car that doesn’t work right.
Ok just got off of chat with the SYNC people at ford, they said it is asking for a map update, even though they are not available over the air. Ford is forcing us to buy the new maps. other wise just turn off auto updates. And update over USB everytime from now on. So according to what she is saying unless we update or maps we can never get OTA updates again.
That doesn't really make sense as many versions, including those released after the current official one your running, don't have this glitch. Previous public release versions don't have it either.

...and that's the problem. I am a 25+ year software engineer and I still to this day take pride in my work and yes, if I have bugs in my code I"ll do what I need to to make it right.
Been coding and doing PLC work for a bit longer then you in the water, wastewater, food producing industries as a contractor and a company employee. I stopped re-writing other developer’s code a long time ago. I only do that if I have an easier way to implement it and can do it quickly. And that usually is only in situations related to scan timing or he who is the last command wins issues. I’ve seen some really poor programming over the years.
Every programmer has there own way of coding. I’m sure folks that have looked at my code ask themselves why I did it that way.
Im not sure if Ford out sources the work, if they do, I understand why we get what we get. Time is money when you are a contractor. And you only do what is in the spec. Nothing more, nothing less. And you do it as quickly as possible. I have always had the attitude that simple as possible is the best way to program.
You have to buy them from the dealer so they can install, It is a dealer only item.
So there's definitely no SD card slot like there was on the Focus so I did call the parts and service department of my closest dealer who states that the Sync 3 updates also include navigation updates as well. I don't really trust dealers a whole lot but tonight I'll update to 3 from version 2.3 and see if my navigation map version NA 1 15 changes after I do the Sync update. If this is true, then the navigation map updates are free compared to the 2015 Focus update I installed a week ago for $150...

This does not make sense. Why would Ford have our vehicles downloading a file that they say does not exist over wifi? I think the person you spoke with does not know what they are taking about.

I picked up my 2018 in January of this year and the map was already out of date. I had to get the navigation because it was included in the ultimate package when i ordered my truck. If it was separate I would not have ordered it. Why would you pay for this crap when google maps is free and always up to date?

completely agree! My 2017 was at least 3 years out of date the day I drove it off the lot last April.
I dont even use it other than for some weather over lays....its worthless
Downloaded the update from the Syncmyride website onto a flash drive and installed on my 2017 F250 - no issues. Took approximately 10 minutes to download and another 15-20 to update the truck.
you can install your self but must order from dealer, they come on a thumb drive coded to you particular vin and sync esn numbers. Oh yes I know the CS person is full of it. They are just trying to sell maps, also my 2.3 to 3.0 update did mot come with a map update. Iam still at .15 version.
Did they say if the new maps for the +17's were available to purchase? I've been waiting for them to come out. I recently updated our '15 Focus and I was glad to see it actually has our home address in it now.
They didn't say, oh found where to get the missing file via the f150 forum, will try to install tomorrow and see if it helps. May call or stop by my dealer and ask, they are showing the .17 map version over on the F150 forum.
