I could do that easier using my Edge CTS, but Ford doesn't use a conventional RCA type connection. Im not a real techie so I may have totally misunderstood what you recommended so please don't be offended.
Something to ponder...the camera requires 4 connections, right? I say this based on the pic posted way above where the camera/light module is photographed. Pos and Neg for power and two for the video, if its a normal NTSC or PAL output. So why not install the hi-mounted camera/light assembly, run the 4 camera wires to the main rear wiring harness, and tap into the existing backup camera connection with a simple selector switch to choose between the regular backup camera and the hi-mounted camera? No fiddling with the onboard electronics/software, or dash bezel switches. A selector switch could be hidden under the dash (DPDT type) to let you switch between cameras. Select the hi-mounted camera, throw the gear selector in reverse, and you should get the hi-mounted camera video instead of the tailgate camera video.
???
this makes sense- you would not be able to scroll the camera while in motion to check "bed contents" tho right? does the factory set up allow for this or only while in reverse?
Hey everyone. I’m trying to figure this out also. I have the brake light with camera and the harness plug that plugs into the camera. I want to install it on my 2015 F350 dually lariat with the ultimate package.
Also interested. I have an 18 XLT premium with just tailgate cam. I also have blis. Does that mean I have the IPMB module? Where is the module located so I can check p/n?
Do you know if the light and camera that you bought would work with the existing wiring? I am only asking if the lights will work with the existing harness. My truck does have LED package. I am thinking I could use the new light with the camera hole as a place to mount a aftermarket camera with rca connections.
I think you would have to buy the jumper harness to make the lamps work properly. IIRC the connector at the brake lamp itself is different. I hope to jump back on this project in the near future as well.
I’m not reading the 9 pages but what can I look at on my truck for you? I have and XL with no sync but I do have BLIS and the back up and cargo cameras. I have forscan also to look at as builts as well.
Sarge,
Any progress? We are all behind you. Thank you for all your work.
Sadly no,
Im in the middle of a 4wd conversion on a 2000 F-250 right now and its consuming all of my extra time that I can spend on my own projects. The customer has given me a pretty unrealistic dead line but I am trying to stick to it. One of two things will happen, Im either going to complete the job on time or end up divorced.
I will try to get going on this though I promise....
