Great work guys. Had to create an account to sub. Did anyone find the correct IPMB part number? comparing trucks with tailgate and CHMSL they do show a IPMB. So im thinking a IPMB will need added also. Ill keep looking
Thank you "1956". I guess I held back when I tried different times. It was tight but when it released, I got them all in one shot. It was getting dark so I was pressed for time but I got a few pics. I would like to know if anyone that has an XLT Premium with the chmsl camera have had their C-PILLAR trim off to compare what wires or harness they have. I am not sure if any of my harness before or after the connector has the camera wires in it. Some of you guys have Lariat so it might have more wires for other goodies. I just have the tailgate camera but I found I had the wires for the trailer hookup light in the tailgate so I added it. It would be great if I only had to get the harness from the C-PILLAR to the new chmsl with cam.
You will need the harness that I posted, your trucks harness looks like it has the same about of wires as mined did and in the same pin locations. If you buy what I listed youll be good...atleast from the cab into the truck.
Thanks Sarge. I guess if I get these parts and can't get camera to plug and play without major expense, I will have a functioning 3rd light (cargo light, brake light) only brighter becaue of leds? Where are you sourcing your parts? I have purchased from Tasca and also Fairway Ford. My local dealer is not much help since my truck came from another dealer. They do not seem interested in checking. They say give them vin #, part is not original to the truck, probably won't take it back if it is wrong, buy at my risk. I would prefer delivery to me instead of back and forth to dealer. I dont mind paying return shipping if I get wrong part as long as they are willing to work with me and try to help find the answer.
If you order the lamp and harness that I listed at the very least you will get LED's up top. I'm buying my stuff local, only because I own/operate my own repair shop so fortunately for me I can pick on select people to talk with...but its not always easy for me either. There has been, and will continue to be, lots of trial and error with this project. I'm hoping my truck is wired for the second module but I'm not nor is anyone I've spoken to 100% certain at this point.
Hey Sarge,
Just wanted to update and have a question maybe someone can answer. I picked up a 3rd brake cargo light with camera and used the number you listed for the short harness from light to c-pillar connector. The light functions and looks great. The LEDs are really nice and bright. I have been unable to run across any trucks or videos that show a truck with just the tailgate cam and the chmsl cam. I saw a video of the 360 camera. When the truck was put in reverse, the tailgate cam showed up on screen and in the top left corner on the screen was the option to show other cameras. I have the 8" screen. I was going to try to add the camera option to my screen using forscan but I either got a bad device or my laptop is not cooperating. I hooked up and started to save the as built before making any changes but it will not allow me to save and it is only showing several modules. Is the camera button above the screen there on trucks with just the tailgate cam and the chmsl camera? All I have found that has the button have the 360 camera package. Also, when I was under the back of the truck changing the harness to add the bed lighting I found near the top of the frame on the drivers side when the spare was out I have a capped connector with a lot of wires. I think it is for the trailer camera setup. Not 100% sure. If so, I want to add the on screen camera option to see if my chmsl camera will work. Maybe I have the module to allow it to work. Taking one step at a time before tearing to much apart.
I'm still working on this. From what I can gather I still need to buy a radio bezel, camera switch, and the combo switch, I will also have to add the second camera module. I've been using the truck quite a bit so I haven't had time to fool around with it too much. It'll be a little while before I get back on it.
Something to ponder...the camera requires 4 connections, right? I say this based on the pic posted way above where the camera/light module is photographed. Pos and Neg for power and two for the video, if its a normal NTSC or PAL output. So why not install the hi-mounted camera/light assembly, run the 4 camera wires to the main rear wiring harness, and tap into the existing backup camera connection with a simple selector switch to choose between the regular backup camera and the hi-mounted camera? No fiddling with the onboard electronics/software, or dash bezel switches. A selector switch could be hidden under the dash (DPDT type) to let you switch between cameras. Select the hi-mounted camera, throw the gear selector in reverse, and you should get the hi-mounted camera video instead of the tailgate camera video.
