There is so much information on getting this camera up and running on this thread its mind blowing. I'm hoping to get my parts in soon per my options on my truck that apply to this system. You guys really did a great job researching and offering to pull your trucks apart to help each other. When I get mine apart I'll take pics and try to figure out how to post them up as I am new here.

It will be interesting to see if the wiring is in the ash for your module and also how you will be able to toggle between cameras. Hopefully you've unlocked the key to making this work. Keep the thread going and if you don't mind can you post the part number for the module?

Sarge... I put in the chmsl and hooked up the jumper wire only so far. The truck doesn't recognize anything new. Like what was already assumed but figured I'd update. Going into the dash now to see what's in there.

Yes sir,

Mines been hooked up for about 2 years now, the cargo light is much brighter than the stock one and so are the brake lights. I guess if I cant get the camera to work Ill still have that benefit. Im still fairly certain that you will need to add the selector switch to toggle cameras even if you have just a tail gate and CHMSL camera. I have a vin number from a truck I found on the lot with the Tailgate and CHMSL camera and it had the switch to toggle. Those were the only 2 cameras that truck had.

I hope Im wrong but my gut tells me otherwise.

Couple questions for you. I am positive your correct on the switch and image processing unit. I have an XLT premium but no CHMSL, I am very interested in this as well. Have a good friend who is a works parts at ford so sitting down and working through the many options to figure this out is what we did when I wanted to add the LED bed lighting to my f250 xlt.

which trim level is your truck?
would you mind sharing the vin in a private message to me, as this will allow us to compare this vin and determine if the main harness in the dashes is truly different.

Ford is know for using standard parts across multiple platforms to simplify the production less optional parts, hence why they pioneered the manufacturing process.

Thanks

Bed Camera

Hello folks,
I just found this thread and would like to add a piece of info that may be of use.
I have a 2017 F250 Lariat with the ultimate package.
I took it in for service today because the bed camera wouldn't come on by pressing the manual camera button and then the screen 'bed camera' icon.

Here is what they told me: "It will only come on if you are in reverse."

When I am in park, I can select the front camera, the front and forward side views ONLY. Even though there is an icon on the screen for the upper and aux cameras, they won't select. If I put it reverse, I can select the icons.
This seems wrong. If I am in PARK, I should be able to see ANY camera. So I am trying to find a way to override this programming.

Well, I didn't know if you folks were aware of this limitation, so I just thought I would mention it. Thanks for all the great posts!

My truck is a Lariat. I will PM you the vin number when I have a chance.

To all Im sorry I have kind f dead ended this project. I have quite a few irons in the fire right now. Not that its an excuse but my projects are always last on the list. Ive taken a huge project on for a customer with a 00 F350 that Im converting to a 4wd, its basically turned into a frame off restoration with lots of modifications with a ridiculous time line (that I cant stick to). On top of that I had an accident with my shop truck, found a replacement which had issues as well so I was caught up in having to sort them out.

I figure by the time Im ready to give up my license and sell the trailers and trucks Ill have this sorted out.

Hope everyones Holidays and New Year is going well, and again sorry for the lack of work on my part!

Ok after much searching through the service manuals and parts list. We have two options to add the CHMSL camera. This would be for trucks that do not have an image processing module installed (IMPB). There are two options for use whom do not have the module;

1. Replace dash harness and add the IMPB module - Very time consuming and the dash harness is pricey.
2 Build an interface cable and add the IMPB, then program with Forscan.

I am going to order parts this weekend to start on option two. In my research Connections to and from APIM, Trailer Brake Controller, BCM, and CHMSL connector in drivers kick panel. in theory this should allow us to add all 3 cameras (Tailgate, CHMSL, and Auxillary) Please note to add the auxiliary you will NEED to replace your taillight wiring harness and purchase the auxiliary ford camera kit (If I get the first part working, then I will be working on adding the Auxiliary camera and trailer TPMS) I only have a 2017 XLT premium these were all optional on my truck. My first goal is to get the IMPB installed and functioning without the CHMSL or Auxiliary camera inputs (phase 1), phase 2 will be CHMSL, and phase 3 will be Auxiliary camera with TPMS

I am hoping someone who has added the camera and harness already can answer one question. I need to know if Pin 1 on the CHMSL camera has 12V+ while the truck is running (Violet Wire) PLEASE use a good volt meter to check for power on this pin. The camera has a control wire that goes back to your BCM, I don't want anyone to cook a BCM!! Once I get my parts and open up the necessary panels I can confirm this myself, but maybe someone has already checked this out and knows the answer.

Do you think the IMPB module would support front and side cameras as well?

The quick answer is Yes, But there would be lots of changes. All four main cameras (Front, Mirrors, and Tailgate) would have to be changed out. The 360 degree camera system uses different cameras with coaxial cable and separate connectors. There are people whom have successfully added the 360 camera system into the F150, but those cameras in the f150 are the standard 4 and 5 wire cameras in use in the 3 camera system in the super duty's.This is where my inspiration to add in the IMPB and see if I can help out with this

As you can see in the PDF, it shows the four cameras are fed by coaxial connectors. There are two different IMPB modules. The one posted earlier in this post seems to be the proper one, and will need some programming to ensure you can see the cameras. Hence my two step approach to testing. building my own interface cable. the basis of what I am working on could be adapted to start the adaptation of adding the 360, but I won't be going down that rabbit hole.

If one you experts that follows this......We just got a couple F350XLs that only have the tailgate camera but the trucks did come with Sync3. We just want to move the camera to the CHMSL and run a extension for the camera from the CHMSL to the original plug by the spare tire where the tailgate camera plugs in.

We already have the camera (HC3Z-13A613-D) and the CHMSL/Camera harness (HC3Z-14A411-G) and the CHMSL pigtail (FU2Z-14S411). I just need to make the camera connection ....??splicing into the C Pillar harness to run to the spare tire plug?

Does that make sense or is there an easier way to do this.

To be clear....we remove the truck bed (with the tailgate camera) or remove the tailgate (with the camera) and move the single camera feed from the tailgate to the CHMSL.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
