I've got you beat Jack, I commuted 80 miles one way for 9 years, couldn't justify the price of houses in the new area and really didn't want to move, so I drove.

By the way, it was uphill both ways!

I only needed 6 more miles ..... 6 more miles.

I couldn't have done it for 9 years. I did the commute by E-150, '65 Mustang, '66 Shelby GT-350, and two different motorcycles, wore the first one out. I did it mostly on motorcycles, even got caught in snowstorms a few times. I discovered in the snow on two wheels you could go faster than some 'Vettes.

I never had a short of a commute as Pete's. Mostly 20 miles, 30 minutes

I wasn't always that lucky. From 99-05 it was from Beachwood to Mayslanding for a 55 mile one way commute. Sucked. Prior to that was only 22 miles one way.
Since this MAY be the only thread I can talk about it, today I finished off the install of the new Husky Ram 26k 5th wheel puck style hitch on the new one. Talk about a heavy beast! Really like the ease of flipping 4 levers and the hitch comes out and leaves a flat floor, no rails.
For some reason this pic got cut off

At least that wasn't the northern parkway traffic. especially on Fridays. I could get to work in 1:30hrs. Going home would take 2+, Fridays 3+ during the summer. 25mph Nutley to the bridge.

That's a nice looking hitch.

In keeping with the topic : Has anyone here used HughesNet Satellite Internet for internet access?

What do you think about the service? Get down and dirty if you need to.

That's funny since we just got an advertisement flier in our pobox last week.
My experience with them was at work about 5 years ago. It was horrible. It was as bad if not worse than dial up. Clouds or approaching storms would knock it out. It also didn't have the bandwidth to carry service for multiple computers running same time. If you had to download something you practically had to wait your turn.
The solution was to dig and run a cable line from a nearby road that had service. Sorry but I don't have any more recent experiences.

Jeese a couple power outages and I miss the whole part about Pete getting a Ram! And that bad-azz Aisin to boot! Congrats Pete...

Sean: we had satellite back in the mid 2000s, and I'm pretty sure not much has changed. We went with that because there was Nothing where we moved, so we tried dial up for a while and, yup the high orbit satellite was better than dial-up. But it sucks compared to anything else... Day time speeds would slow way down because they prioritized the business customers over the individual residential customers. They capped data on our plan, but then again we didn't stream movies back then. The absolute worst thing you would notice is the extreme latency and it was unpredictable but always slow. I liked to bid on eBay auctions and would have to place my bid MINUTES before the item ended, just to make sure it got in... We were locked in to a 2 year contract and when a new service came to our area, just switched over and kept paying for 6 more months. We hated it, but if you are out in the sticks it may be all you can get.

When these new low orbit satellite networks get built out, folks will flock to them for sure...

And +2 on weather caused outages (heavy clouds, snow, etc. = NO service)...

Scott

Sean,

a couple of our Scout Leaders have it and it is soooo poor that they have to go to the library or a Four-bucks to get the bandwidth to be able to do mandatory training and access the advancement pages. Only as a LAST option IMHO.

Welcome to the land of moronic drivers. First major storm of the year and DOT has had to shut most of the highways down due to drivers who think they can drive on snow like it is dry pavement.

Glad I’m not on plow duty and headed South.

that even stunk tonight. 25-35 on the freeway was all I felt comfortable doing because of visibility an soupy snow. Add to it all of the plows are at higher elevations trying to open the freeway and main highways especially with stuck public.
