It seemed to need a hard reboot John. Each time I shut down and restarted it would get worse. First I lost my NAV maps. Next I lost steering wheel controls and the ability to stream via BT. Last was the black screen. A master reset might have worked but with a black, unresponsive screen, there wasn't a way to do it. So, it was time to go back to basics. I pulled the plug...
This is the message I got from the Ford Research Team and it worked for my truck.
Good morning, Michael. I wanted to reach back out to let you know that I have heard back from our research team. They advised that performing two subsequent master resets should correct the issue you had previously described to me. To do so please use the following instructions:
1. Perform a master reset.
2. Turn the vehicle off, wait 5 minutes.
3. Start the vehicle
4. Perform another master reset
5. Turn the vehicle off, wait 5 minutes.
Please let me know how this works for you.

I tried this exactly. Didn't help as it still will not return the audio input (always Siris for me) that it was on prior to a restart.

I too am having this issue. It started after updating to 3.0 (JR3T-14G381-AL) from Ford Owner web site. At first it was defaulting to AM but after a week it started defaulting to FM (at least its not loud static) I exclusively listen to Sirius XM.
After the updated, I uploaded the required file back to Ford web site which now says "Your SYNC is up-to-date!"
On a separate note, for 2 weeks now my vehicle, which says ver 3.0, has been trying to update via wifi.
I have performed a soft reset and a hard reset and nothing has helped.
I am still getting that message over 2 weeks and still getting that message every time I connect to my home wifi.

Nice troubleshooting! I’ll keep this in mind if I start having issues with my truck.

it's a unofficial release.
Released in early April. it can be installed on vehicles now via unofficial ways.
As far as when ford will release it to the public who knows.
Could be next week, next month or next year. (It took months for ford to release 3.0.18025 to the public.)
Things I have noticed
Slightly faster UI
Better sound quality (questionable, could be me)
Probably released to fix the original 3.0.18025 public release disaster.
Hopefully it`s a fix for the Check For Updates feature as well as resolving connecting to and staying connected to ones home wifi network and other hotspots.
I have a 2017 F250 Platinum and I updated, via the USB port, the official copy of the Sync 3 ver 3.0 about 3 weeks ago. I had been having problems with the truck starting up in FM when all I listen to is XM, but this seemed to have resolved itself over the last week and it seemed to be working just fine. However, this morning on my way to work, listening to XM, I heard a couple of beeps coming from the sound system. They sounded like small indication beeps when something is wanting attention, but there was no indication on the display so I ignored them. About halfway to work, the head unit display went weird, as seen in the attached picture. I'm not sure what happened. The unit seems to have some responsiveness, but I cannot get it to into any menu I recognize as everytime I touch it it does something then returns to the display in the picture. Has anyone seen this before? I searched through a great deal of the website here, as I've been reading almost every thread I think over the last year, but I have yet to see this issue. Any thoughts from those that more informed on this topic would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Sounds and looks like a SYNC 3 system glitch that can be solved by a Master Reset or hard re-boot.
Yup, that afternoon, after work, started it up, and it was ok, so I did a master reset while I had the screens displaying and no problem since then. Thanks to all for helping out, you're a great group of knowledgeable folks.
I did the update last night, took the standard 1/2hr. or so then told me the update would take effect on the next startup. I shut the truck off and waited 10 min, the restarted. I had a main screen with no map, the compass was showing on the upper right corner, no navigation screen, couldn't change the ambient light color. And more weird things, I firgured I wasn't going to solve the issue last night and I would just have to figure out how to go back to the old version. Shut the truck off and surfed this thread and others looking for info and then decided to turn the truck back on and then everything was normal and looked just like it had before with maps and navigation, ambient control worked etc.
So all is well it just took a few power cylces. This am things looked right.

Speaking as a former QA and software manager for a software company, you guys installing betas and prereleases on your production trucks are braver than me :-) Its not surprising to hear of deprecations of functionality, odd behaviors, and difficulties subsequently upgrading to official releases.
For those of us who are making decisions on whether to upgrade to the latest official release, can those of you reporting issues, please be absolutely clear in your posts on which specific official or unofficial release you are running, and whether you had upgraded from an unofficial release? History matters - upgrade testing of builds often omit paths which include unofficial builds, due to the sheer number of builds which never get promoted to official release.
