All in good fun. I'm not that uptight. My attitude is if you're willing to strap yourself and your family into it and drive down the highway I'm willing to let you. Just trying to present the data so people who aren't as familiar as you and me know the issues presented by these types of decisions.

I guess. I just haven't seen piles of dead families on the side of the road due to reusing u-bolds. Maybe they got cleaned up before I drove by?

What percentage of the vehicles on the road do you think ever have their U bolts loosened after they leave the factory? Of the small population that do how many of those are done at a dealer or shop that's going to follow the manufacturer recommended practice of not reusing the U bolts. Of those I know of who have reused U bolts (mostly from forums like this one) I do hear many stories of constantly having to re torque them afterwords. I've replaced axles on several vehicles. When I was young and poor I reused the U bolts because the $20 was a big deal in my life and these were $2000 Jeeps that I needed to keep on the road despite my propensity for breaking front axles. Every time I went back to retorque I got at least a quarter turn before they came back up to torque. Now that I'm older the $20 is much less important I'm working on trucks that have values between $50k and $70k and the last two I've done I retorqued twice at 500mi intervals and got no movement before they came back to torque so I stopped bothering checking them. In that situation the money is worth the piece of mind. But to each his own.

Well, I'm not poor and paid cash for my truck... well, that and my house and everything else I own. My u-bolts stay tight. I guess you have more issues that I do. Sorry to hear that...

If you have a gasser or non HD 250 6.7, you would run the 2016 F250 u-bolts as those 2017 trucks have the same Sterling 10.5 as previous years. If you have an HD 250 or a SRW 350 6.7 with the new DANA M275, you would need the u-bolts from a 2017 2x4 of the same configuration. (I'm assuming the 2x4's use a shorter or no block?) Alternately, you could go to any competent spring shop and they carry all sizes of u-bolts and can easily match up some bolts to what you need.

Somethings are based on sound technical ground. Which sometimes fails victim to a lack of common sense. All of which is subject to being over-ruled by lawyers.

As for the no longer important $20...please send to Mr. F. Dually, P.O. Box...

Well.... here's the shorter spacer and the U-bolts with an inch of thread cut off..

FWIW here's a picture from the side. 1½" lower doesn't really make a big difference in appearance.

I think it makes enough difference to be worth it based on what I see in the pics. Also, it means I could actually reach over the side of the bed 😎

What I really want is a custom set of Deavers springs or add a leaf that ditch the block and lower 2". But dang the $$$$
