Does the FORD Sync not update the maps etc.at least annually? First vehicle with a factory NAV system and I thought it said in the online tutorial once you link it to wireless it will update.
depends....some folks have had challenges w/ older versions of sync.
given that the maps are 3 yrs old and I've done updates (wireless) theres still no changes to the maps...my guess is the NAV updates are as rare as unicorns!
Another issue with Ford Nav is not being able to find/recognize well-known addresses, and the improper use of the pronunciation of the number "0" as the Ford Nav lady will say and recognized a zero as an "OH". I live at 201 Mystic Lake. I have to say 2 oh 1 or it will not know what I am saying. Drives me nuts. I even notified Ford years ago.......they didn't see an issue. I guess none served in the military.
One day my wife and I were going to Brandon Ford in the F150 and we punched 50000 Adamo Dr. The Ford female Nav voice chimed in 5 oh, oh, oh, oh,, prepare to turn left on 5 oh, oh, oh, oh, oh...........my wife chuckled saying it sounds like the old girl is having an orgasm.
Thanks for the info Jim. I wasn't sharp enough to pick up on the zero thing. It just frustrated the poo out of me over and over again trying to enter addresses. I'll keep this in mind.
Wireless connectivity will update your Sync Software... It will not update your maps. You have to purchase the updated maps. My build date was 6/5/17 and my maps include recently constructed roads in my area so not tracking the maps being that outdated. I always carry an old Garmin that has lifetime maps and Google Maps on the phone just in case...

how do you even GET the updates?
IIRC its included/covered under the warranty.
The ford owner site knows the last time I updated or attempted & says I'm current.
From the Owner's Manual - P538 - "Navigation Map Updates -- Annual navigation map updates are available for purchase through your dealership, by calling 1-866-462-8837 in the United States and Canada or 01-800-557-5539 in Mexico. You can also visit: Website Ford and Lincoln Navigation Map Update Center You need to specify the make and model of your vehicle to determine if there is an update available. HERE is the digital map provider for the navigation application. If you find map data errors, you may report them directly to HERE by going to www.here.com/mapcreator. HERE evaluates all reported map errors and responds with the result of their investigation by e-mail."
I got a card in the mail recently for my now traded 2012 F350 King Ranch.
I only use the Ford Nav screen for the weather over lay - I zoom out enough just to see the weather overlay in metro area.
The ford maps are at least 3 years old, as such its unusable for routing.
If it didn't have all the other crap (seats, climate) integrated it would would be on the shelf already.
My build is 5/17/17 with Sync 3 v2.2. I get traffic conditions (except in Oregon, but I doubt that's a technical issue) but I've never seen weather on the map, nor anything in the menus to activate/deactivate it. Any thoughts or ideas?
Only thing I liked about the Ford Nav system when I had it (2013 Expedition) was being able to look for POIs like restaurants on the route only. Avoided all of the places behind you or significantly off the route. Wish Garmin did that.
Agreed. The other thing the Ford maps are good for of course, is when you get out of cell coverage. Smartphones rely on largely on cell tower data for location, but more for map rendering, the Ford GPS has all of the maps locally, and need only line of site to GPS satellites. It's saved me several times as a backup, when I've forgotten to download map data to the smartphone when going into remote or mountain areas
EDIT: this would be the equivalent of having a Garmin unit with you (which would be cheaper if you had the option to remove Nav)
Google maps let's you download any area you want and store it locally, so I have all of California on my phone and can get details no matter what cell service is like.

Weather is in the Sirius Travel Link. If you have voice activation you can say "show weather map" otherwise use the Sync touch screen to go to the Travel Link page. See P 538 of the owner's manual.
To use Google Maps, you have to use Android Auto, correct? Is there any other way?
I have an iPhone... But I don't use CarPlay. I like to keep Sync on one screen and my iPhone on another. I like Waze for serious navigating, but use Sync nav for more casual map work.
Tip #65.........save your money and don't pay for navigation. Use car play with your phone and use google maps (or any map program you like) which is a superior product (updates itself) and functions on your display just like the expensive Ford navigation option.
Yeah, but does it work when you are out of cell range?
That's why I had 6" of ClearBra run along the rocker panels from wheel well to wheel well.
I do like my Shin Whackers, er, power running boards. I think they make the truck look taller, give better ground clearance and they're just plain cool.
C an you post a photo of your clear bra, especially at the edges?
