My feeding and watering session should be getting started soon so all will be well then.

This bird is the size of a fattened up Robin but has a lot of light green, grey and light brown, has a longer narrow beak which is why I thought it might be a woodpecker. Had to look to see what the cats were growling about because it blended so well with the pine/ cedar tree from my angle.

Did you take a picture of the bird so it could be identified...?

I've been fed and watered too John, a full belly always puts a smile on my face.
I`ve never seen anything like a Northern Flicker. I really like watching woodpeckers and chickadees.

The northern flicker is native to your area Morris according to the link, they breed further north though

There`s probably a lot of birds around that I miss seeing John, I`m too busy watching the wood peckers and chickadees. Magpies are always hanging around in the distance watching for free food.

My farm yard was always full of big trees and I planted lots of trees close to my house. I couldn`t stand not having trees around my yard.

I still have a few M100, M250 and one M350 trucks but most have been cleaned out over the years. It`s very hard to ever find anything locally.

My last place had a pair of nesting morning doves for the first couple of years but the magpies and crows chased them off. I'm thinking this is either a grey Jay or one of the wood peckers as this area is protected enough and Calgary is warm enough for them to winter here. There's a branch that makes a good perch and feed holder so that may go on the project list.

Magpies and crows chase just about everything off, I`m glad the woodpeckers and chickadees are around.
