I believe i am going to go that route as well. I've been holding out hoping they would release it to the normal upgrade process but it does not appear they will.
Being a bit adventurous - I upgraded my Sync3 2.0 to the 2.2 release via USB. Everything went fine - took about 15 minutes and now the traffic feature finally works with my navigation.
Cool.
You might start getting many request from other users who are also on 2.0 and they`d like to know how you did this and if you`ve had any problems since the upgrade. I`m sure you`ve read or heard about people having to replace their APIMS after attempting going from 2.0 to 2.2 so yes, i`d say you were being very adventurous.
I guess you`re one of the lucky ones.
I was on 1.0 and mine updated OTA to 2.2 a few weeks back.

If you`re going from 2.0 to 2.2, proceed with caution.
It doesn`t work for everyone and if you kill your APIM, it`s not covered under warranty.
Yes, Ford/SNYC dropped the ball on this one because in my opinion, the update should apply to 2.0 as well.

I emailed the sync people through owners.ford and what she told me was they don't have any plans to release an update for 2.0 to 2.2. so looks like we will be orphaned again.

come on now. you cant drop a bombshell like that and not respond. Where can we find more info about people frying their APIMS after doing the 2.2 update?

Sorry for the delayed reply guys,
Busy with work lately and i`ve not been on here for a couple of days.
I`ve read about people having issues upgrading from 2.0 to 2.2 on other forums and they`ve destroyed they had to have their APIMS replaced at their expense.
No, it didn`t happen to everyone but there have been some.
I`ve not heard of any reasons why this does happen but as many have said before and it`s also on the Ford website, the 2.2 update is not for vehicles with 2.0 so maybe that`s why it happened.
I`m not 100% sure but I could have sworn i`ve heard people on here as well talking about going from 2.0 to 2.2 and afterwards having problems with the APIM.
Accessory Protocol Interface Module - It's just a little black box that makes sure the electrons coming from the Sync system get routed to the right places.
I just got my wife a 2017 explorer and her sync 3 tabs are different colors instead of just blue like ours. I did the update on my f250 to 2.2 and its not the same as hers. Is that something we can change with forscan?

When I updated to 2.2 I got the different colored tabs. When you go into sync info, does it say you're on 2.2 17011?
