I am thinking of buying the HC3Z-19A387-B updated module. I have a couple of questions if anyone knows the answer to
I have a 2016 ford f-150 XLT 302a
1.) When I log into my fordowner account it says I have the most up to date version of sync 3 which it states is 2.0? Will the apple CarPlay work with version 2.0?
2.) If it doesn't work on version 2.2, what is the best way to get 2.2v? I heard ford released it to the public, I'm not great with bootleg/usb stuff so should I just take it to the dealership to update?
3.) Why is Ford not paying for the updated module and installation. It seems crazy to me that this is not covered under warranty!?
I mailed ford about the Sync 2.2 update for existing '17 trucks that have 2.0 she told me their is no plans at this time to roll out 2.2 for our trucks. I hope she is wrong.

You need to down load the one you need for your vehicle on a thumb drive. Don't forget you'll also need a new USB Module (the one you have now won't work with your iPhone.

If there's no CarPlay with 2.0, then what is mine doing?
I have 2.0 and when I plug in my iPhone and press car play, my apple CarPlay stuff comes up on the screen.
What is that then?

Same here. 2.0 and all my carplay stuff is available when I plug in my phone. I have it disabled because I'm not a huge fan.
The OP said he has a 2006! No CarPlay with the 2.0 in a 2016. Even if you change the USB Hub. Come on folks quit trying to argue and post good info. I'm not singing CarPlays praises he just wanted info about getting it on his 2016. He can figure out heather he likes it or not.
Being a bit adventurous - I upgraded my Sync3 2.0 to the 2.2 release via USB. Everything went fine - took about 15 minutes and now the traffic feature finally works with my navigation.
To be clear - this is on a 2017 that came with 2.0 from the factory. Turned it into a Raptor too!
