Well if you have the expertise then give some pointers I'm always open to constructive criticism. I don't see any pouris areas where I was welding in the new steel. But I could have missed one or two and I cleaned up 1 inch or more out from the weld point. Now I don't do much rusty or painted welding so maybe more needs cleaned
Ya suspension will be with the stick or a much better mig. A nice 220 gas mig is in the plans some day. But I've welded much more with a stick welder and have a decent machine so that will all be good. I may hold off on any suspension welding till I get a better mig or even a rig just for the added strength and no slag which I know will build between stops on the weld. First we'll see how the plow mount for the psd holds up.
As for my preference. ...I tig or stick. I'm a pipe welder by trade. I have seen plenty of mig welds that looked super sweet and failed. I know stick and tig so that's what I prefer but others weld better with mig and that's great for them. Just be sure it's clean that's the number one thing. I don't know you or your skills but we all were nothing till we was something. Lessons learned and just trying to pass it on.
Glad to hear your good with stick. I've mainly stick welded for the last 10 years as I didn't have access to a good mig or rig and can weld just about anything with a stick welder. I'm very happy with the results yet have not xrayed anything etc. however I have yet to have a stick weld break. So if it will contain hazardous stuff near a residential area it will hold me up.
There's nothing wrong with those welds, it's sheet metal for f sake. I won't call em pretty either.....but use a good quality seam sealer and moisture won't be an issue regardless of weld.
Painted shock mount Fuel tank straps clean and rust converter used on them Shock mount hardware cleaned up Hey there is metal under all the grease I didn't get the picture but I found the I'd tag on the 205
