Yeah, that sounds fishy to me too. But, to each their own. Is it possible that that is shop speak for: I'd rather you bought it from one of my suppliers so I can charge a mark up?
You get the best photos, AB. Can I use them in a book about the 300?
Hey, I'm going to the auto swapmeet Sunday. If I spot a set of 1.6 big block chevy r.rockers, from a know manufacturer, Comp, Crane, Crower, Erson, Scorpion, for around $100, in 7/16 or 3/8", should I get them for you? Postage would be around $12, if USPS still has the 'if it fits it ships' boxes and rates.
For the v.cover, height is the issue. There is a guy on the other forum, cnc dude, I believe, who makes spacers to raise the v.c. PM me with an email and I'll send you a photo of a friend's roadster with the spacer on it. *Oh, come to think of it, he said he was going to start making cast v.covers too....
I'd be interested in that info also, and maybe a link to that forum thread where they are talked about/pics?
Hey, I learn a lot from all of these good threads. I'm on my way today to get a Craigslist local Clifford manifold; I love parts!

My guess is that it's simply from past experience. Whether it's true or not is debatable. He mostly works with engines built for racing, drag strips, competition, etc. so if anything's going to see issues with minor defects in parts, it's those. Dunno.
As for the roller rockers, that would be really cool. I know we already have the ARP studs bought and ready to install so I'll give him a call today to see what size they are. However, I haven't contacted CNC dude. Do you know how much he charges? My budget's pretty tight at the moment.
Thanks for the compliments on the pictures. I enjoy taking them. And yes, feel free to use them. Don't know if there's any attributing, but if so, that's all I'd ask.
Okay, so I was getting a few of my discussions with him mixed up. As far as summit goes, he said he'd been shipped the wrong parts a time or two and got tired of dealing with returns to get what he was wanting/needing, especially when builds are time sensitive. Makes sense.
Either way, looks like I'm going with these springs:

I'll get that info from him when I bring them in. If nothing else, I want the documentation for anything that may come up in the future.
And yes, it's great to see this project finally nearing the end. Not as much hands on as I had originally planned, but it's been a great learning experience, and I've been involved in every step of the design process. Fun stuff.
Hello AB. I wanted to post a nice photo of a friend's roadster with a 300. I think you've maybe seen it? I was so surprised because he painted the block with por 15, and it looks really good. I never would have thought a brush applied paint would look so good. Email me if you'd like to see it.
*Aside: I tried to upload the photo to photobucket. After 15 minutes of being rerouted, and fighting popups, and waiting, I gave up. When did that site turn into a ... mess? Can anyone recommend a good image hosting site?
