Welcome aboard RainDesert. Have a grand Tail Gater! Danged Pac 12 network is showing the Ducks game.
I hate Ducks. I buy a duck stamp every year so I can shoot ducks without getting in trouble!
Good afternoon Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Rain Showers most of the night and early this morning.
Roofers showed up at O dark thirty. Started laying out tarps, getting compressors, tools, other equipment, and ground mats laid out and reorganized the pile of roofing supplies.
Around 0745, when it was light enough to see more than 20 feet and after the particular rain shower passed, an army or workers ascended to the roof. Old roofing was flying off the roof so fast I thought a tornado had parked right over the roof.
All the weather forecasts I saw for today were apparently wrong. Rained off and on right up until about 0745. It quit and the roofers went to work. Later, the clouds parted and it has been mostly sunny since.
When the project manager told me he had to go to corporate and they went south into another district to find a contractor and crew...he wasn't kidding one little bit.
The contractor cleaned out Tijuana and Nogales for a crew, and only the crew boss seems to speak just barely enough English to communicate. I talk to the rest of crew in sign language!
We had an interesting discussion about how Pearl Harbor is not in Oregon and the only Japanese attacks here during WWII were on the North Oregon coast and the south Oregon coast. He seemed disappointed.
They seem to be doing a good job. Seems like they are making record time, but there are 9 of them. With all of them up on the roof, it makes the roof look a lot smaller than what it is.
Thanks Evan. Lifetime warranty. Still can't figure out why we had so many problems getting a contractor to do it. These guys will have it done by tomorrow evening. I figured at least 3 days and the project manager was originally thinking 3 1/2. Thankfully the fortune tellers missed the mark on weather today. A little worried that they are calling for 80% chance of rain tomorrow.
The good thing is that they have all of the underlayment down on all remaining exposed roofing. The underlayment itself is rated to act as a dry temp roofing for a little over 6 months.

Yes they did. They had 7 people on the roof, and 2 people on the ground carting the peeled roof to the garbage trailer. Once the ground was picked up they raked it and then ran a magnet over it. Then, they started feeding the new material up on the roof where two guys did some stacking while the other 5 started laying out the underlayment or replacing a couple of bad 1x4's and 1x6's.
Then all 9 ended up on the roof. I was thinking I should double check to see if maybe we weren't exceeding the pounds per square foot maximum of the roof.
They think they have a 2 day weather "window" to get it on and since we had been delayed so long, they put our job up as an "all hands on deck" evolution.
They'll be done by tomorrow night unless the really bad weather forecasted arrives. It didn't today, can we get lucky two days in a row?
Thanks John. When I started this in July, who would have thought it would have taken so long to get done. I knew there might be a problem because of the pitch of the roof because of what we went through to get the folks house reroofed 5 or 6 years ago. They were turned down by 3 contractors and I sent a friend out to do the roof for less money. For some reason, a lot of contractors don't like working the steep pitches (in an area where 1:12 45° roofs are very common).
Unfortunately for me, my timing sucks. Dan retired last year and sold his equipment and let his CCB license expire.
I'm with Jim on the Ducks.....
The Beavers had a good first half, but unfortunately are behind now with just a few minutes left.
Today I went to a farm auction and managed to pick up a few minor things. It did rain this morning but most of the sale was inside so I stayed mostly dry. It went all day, and I was able to catch up on visiting with people I hadn't seen for a while. All in all a good day.
