I live in Tx, my insurance covers my Truck camper and its contents and the contents of the truck...IF I have proof. So the TV in the back seat of my truck, that I was taking over to Uncle Bruce, if it was stolen my Comprehensive covered it. It also covers the custom made front bumper, my add on Hella driving lights etc etc...maybe its a Texas thing!

Well I'll try and make it short.
First off I'm an LEO (30 years now). This was about 10 years ago. I have my fifth wheel parked out at a friends property, parked close to his SeaTrain that he keeps his high end tools in. We are door to door, but enough room for the drop door to ope almost horizontal, but not all the way down. Family go out to feed his horses and I see my rolled carpet out of the trailer next to the wheels. I'm like damn wife/kids took it out and forgot to put it back, dogs and kritters can do all kinds of things. Walked towards back and noticed one of the lock bodies cut and partially under the trailer. Looked at the other, It was gone also (never found it). Latches are secure. Crime scene investigation kicked in, noticed several shoe tracks and a set of tire tracks on the opposite side next to the trailer where vehicles are not parked. Unlatched the door and cracked it open. Immediately noticed one quad (mine) gone, three left. Called my agency (their jurisdiction). Also had our crime lab come out. They processed the trailer several prints located. several small items missing (tools, googles etc.) There were several things left right next to the door where the quad was. Thought to myself, they are coming back.
So that afternoon before dark, I loaded up some snacks, water flashlight and several professional items I have. Wife insisted on coming, so geared her up also. locked ourselves in and went through the plan. When they enter allow them to come far enough in to get to the rear door to contain them inside. Anticipated no action before midnight, caught about an hour or so. about 0130 heard a vehicle closer than the road. Then doors closing. About two minutes, creaking of the rear door. Im upfront but its pitch dark, and there are vapor lights outside, they have no night vision. Two enter the trailer, nothing in their hands. About six feet in I traverse the length of the trailer, and stand on the door. ID myself as LEO and have weapon drawn. They thought about making a dash until my wife gave same announcement. Called units in on radio, cavalierly came in quick. They confessed and gave up where the my quad was. Got it back with just a broken ignition.

All in all good outcome. Got some restoration about a year later. Both guys copped to a couple other thefts. Turns out they were actually trying to get into the SeaTrain but could not get to the locks, so they settled for my trailer.

Well that's the back story.

Keith

So let me get this straight... You're locked INSIDE the trailer, all the way up front. The perps enter through the rear of the trailer, get only about 6 feet in, and you managed to "traverse the length of the trailer" from the front all the way to the back, without rocking the trailer or alerting them to your presence until you can block their about face exit to the rear door????

You're more than LEO.. you have super natural powers! You're not just with the police force, the FORCE is actually with you!

Yup - and my SxS is on it's own policy, just like my motorcycles..
Which reminds me that I have to dig out my insurance card for that thing, stuff it in a baggie and into the glove box..

Road Trip

Well Grandpa during his Christmas visit decides he is goingoing to seriously look at a 5th wheel. We find one he likes Montana 3710FL. The guys here don't deal well so he calls his local dealership in Billings, MT. Not only do they have the exact model he is looking for, it's only been there for 10 days. So several calls later he has it locked up with a deposit until he gets back home.
Fast forward, he has made all the arrangements but wait.... he does not have a truck. Well no problem son and grandson both have trucks. So today my son and I are departing to Livingston MT. 1283 miles to Dad's place. We will inspect and pick up the trailer on Monday in Billings. Return to Livingston setup the trailer and a day or two later hit the road back to California. Looking forward to spending some father son time. And looking forward to putting a few more miles on 51-Fifty. We will shoot a photo or two.

Keith & Craig

No, that's not how it happened. There was a Jackhammering F250 in Regen 3 blocks away that masked his movement and sound. Thank god!
