I have a 2013 F350 (28,000 miles) and haul a 43 foot Voltage toy hauler. The 2016 models have the engine braking system. Is it worth trading mine in for this option? Any thoughts are appreciated.

not worth the trade. yours and mine (a 2013) are just fine.

use manual mode on the trans for the big down hills.

Thanks a bunch. Last year was my first year with the new RV and burnt up the front brakes going down a mountain in NM. The manual mode sound like a better idea than the tow haul.

when you use manual mode it takes it out of tow/haul.

I have run NM and CO mountains and TN as well as Western MD using the manual mode. Still on my first set of brakes.

They do make after market exhaust brake systems as well. Pretty inexpensive and effective.

What highway? I did the drop from Cloudcroft to Alamogordo in the winter. My first trip with the fiver. I used T/H mode and some brakes, had to let people past a few times. Other than listening to the engine run up over 3k it handled it well.

I've towed with both a 2011 and my current 2015. I've never used manual mode when towing. I always used tow haul. Each time you hit the brakes, when going downhill, the transmission will downshift a gear. Going down hill with the 2011, I might have to hit the brakes 2,3,4 times before engine and transmission would get the speed of the rig slowed to a comfortable. With the 2015, I find that one tap of the brakes is usually enough, sometimes two taps. I love the exhaust brake. I wouldn't want to go back to a truck without it. That said, I wouldn't trade just to get the exhaust brake.

Have a 2015 and the 3200 Voltage. Came home one day with a shorted brake system (Not NM hills but a long one) limited top gear and used brakes on and off (not riding). So far ok (Just fixed another manufacturer brake problem )

We generally run the trailer at 16K or a bit heavier and of course only have 2 axles.

450 now sitting with 2.5" lift, love the way it looks now. 1200km so far, washed and waxed sitting in garage today and I'm driving the old 550 6L as we have received 6" of wet snow today and roads are a bog.
