after my latest foray into the 6.0, I am planning on upping the Diagnostics a bit, before the next issue arrises.
I was looking into the AE ford bundle, and thinking that was the way to go for the money.
but then Ebay has these AWESOME!! Ford IDS clone packages for about what a SGII goes for.
Mostly just wondering if anyone has experience with these, how they worked, and how long it took for theiir software to hack your laptop, turning it into a worthless pile of "bot."
Yes, I see some genuine IDS packages, but they are well over a grand.
I only have one ford, so that is a chunk of money to drop just to watch the injector fire on that cool graph.....
There are several members here that use a clone. They will do everything the origional will, except be able to be updated.
That comes from my research on this when the clones first showed up. That was long ago and may not apply anymore.
You really need to wait until one of them chimes in.
Keep in mind IDS is Ford specific only, if you have another brand vehicle that you may want to work on go with the A&E easealy expandable.
I ordered one from China a few weeks ago and tracking shows I should have it today. My hopes are high but for under $200 it's not much of a risk and the seller seems to support the product. We shall see.
Ford offical IDS yes 600 or 700.
The clone no Ford will not update or renew because it isn't Ford. It is a knockoff.
So it will work, no problem? It just won't update, no big deal really. As long as it does the cont/balance test and turns off the FICM compensation. This the only real way to diagnose the injectors.
The only draw back is how many years the particular clone you buy it is only good up to it's years of coverage after that it will be useless for anything newer.
Example the coverage is to 05 if you need to read a 06 and up it wont read. And you can't update for more coverage. But untill then your good to go.

I've used mine to read parameters on a 2014 F350 6.7. Not sure what it was spec'd out to. It's IDS version 86.01A.
Maybe Yahiko would know?
The IDS does seem kind of picky in regards to non-Ford vehicles like Mazda. I can pull codes and read parameters on a 2006 thru 2009 Mazda 3, but it won't recognize a 2008 Mazda 6. I could pull and clear codes on a 2010 Range Rover, but it wouldn't recognize the parameters.
Which doesn't matter a whole lot to me, it's main purpose is the 6.0.
