NP208 Info

Dylan - I have the NP208 section of the 1981 Ford shop manual scanned into an album here. In there are the 9 pages, including the specifications. Additionally, the last pic in there is of the illustration from the master parts catalog since it is cleaner than the one in the shop manual.

I also have the illustration from the parts catalog in a pdf which would allow zooming in closer, but have lost the ability to attach pdf's to posts or include them in albums, so I'd have to email it to you if you think you need it.

Anyway, the reason for not just posting the pics here is that 9 of them would overwhelm people (trust me, I'm known for creating overload). Besides, you may want to use only a few of them. Good luck!

NP208F Rebuild

heres the kit

Note: i didnt use the orings, or a few spacers.

here she is all cleaned up

me and my friend. we used a big **** pipe wrench and a big breaker bar

heres the front driveshaft and the rubber seal

next remove these guys.

inside of it

the speedo gear and the oil pump i believe

snap ring, and a little pin that will either fall out, or youll have to pull out

washer and bearings pulled

btw, i recommend pulling them off, and laying them in a row, for each side along with taking pictures every step helped me a few times

here she is without the vocer

11 bolts keep them in order

inside cover

my metal magnet

remove this guy, then you will pull this side towards you and turn slightly towards the other side to remove the chain and pull this out of it.

like this

after that tip the case on to its back. other wise this happens.

remove this then

keep them in order

then remove this

this guy is tapered, which i didnt know until i hammered it in...lol

remove this guy, it moves up and down to put the gears in and out such as 4x4 and 4x4 low

then pull this guy

this is the cam that moves the gears

this is the next stop

remove this next..mine was milky becuase i had got water in when i cleaned it

after that, you remove the bearings and seals (which i only replaced gthe seals, my bearings were still good looking. then reverse it to put it back together!

always make sure it will shift through the gears before you put it back together.

It honestly wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

My dad was fussing the whole time I mentioned it saying I know when to pay somebody and when I'm over my head and I tore it down and was like that's it? Psht okay! He ended up stopping by and put most of it back together.
