I think your confused on that my friend. My bad.

LOL you confused me thoroughly.

On the other hand, I would 100% want to see the motor I was buying, you know, before I bought it, or had the machinst.. machine it..

I bought a built motor that the guy never paid for, and am having my guy take it apart and check/fix it. And I'm dropping it and a zf5 in place of my bad motor and t18.

I'm sorry bud. I got so used to everyone knowing what I was doing I guess I forgot to add all the details to the original post!

I not only want to see it, but I disassemble the engine, mike the parts, and then take them to the machine shop. Once I get the parts back, and I hope to in the next week, I mike them again to ensure I got what I asked for. Nothing left to chance.

So you bought a newly built - never run- engine, and it needs to be milled and sleeved???

I don't even..

You can't stop there. Remember, you are point for several of us. Say what we are thinking.

... I don't even know what to say about that.

Maybe the PO who refused to pay for it had X-ray vision?

or a compression tester/ leak down tester?

Really hard to say if it's never been run.
Rings aren't seated, there's no way to crank it for a compression test.

Watch out for the breaker bar when you pressurize a cylinder for leakdown.

I've always wondered if it was possible to do a leak down test with pushrods removed?

Easy. Just bring the pistons to TDC and don't worry about which stroke it is on.

But how do you keep the crank from turning if it's sitting on the floor.

Yes, I know there is no rotational force at exactly TDC.
It would still worry me.

I've had no problem at all with the piston on or close to TDC. It will creep a bit if not on TDC, but not much. And that's on a worn-in engine. I would think the rotational drag on a new engine would be significantly more, preventing creep.

But, with a 4" bore you are still looking at 1256 pounds of force. So you do want that crank to be straight up - or down if the push rods are out.

No point in doing a leakdown at the bottom of the stroke.
That's not where the bore really has to seal.

I say we all congratulate Dylan on his progress and let him have his thread back.
