Sounds like things are going pretty good Lance, I'm looking forward to reading your review of the headers once you drive the EX with them on.

Thanks, I hope to have mine on in the next day or so. I found some other things to fix while it's this easy. New power steering lines, block heater, battery cables. I have to get the dipstick tube out yet, had to heat the head to get the bolt out, but that's the last thing to take apart. The block heater is in and was working on the hoses but had to get to town before the stores closed.

New cables

Used 2 gauge

I couldn't believe Ford cut the coating and soldered on a ground for the frame!

I used 2 gauge to the engine and then 4 gauge back up to the frame.

Carquest made the cables for me.

I put antiseize on the shaft as well as the threads.

Burnt with the torch while removing the studs.

Made the job a little easier.

Short work of getting out the old exhaust.

Finally got everything removed and putting it back together

The passenger side header is done. The drivers side is on and the dipstick tube is in but didn't get the header tightened down. I lost a header bolt, looked everywhere, was under the EX looking at everything and noticed the power pickle and how long it was........ got a flexible magnet and ran it down the middle of the header into the pickle

I think we'll have to use the hanger of the old pipe like Christina did.

Pulled the vacuum hose for the factory hubs. We have Warn hubs.

Put pipe plugs in where vacuum used to attach.

It only had the rubber bushing on one side when I took it apart.

Sucks to put new shocks on now, we want to replace the springs and shocks before winter.

Had to trim the brace for the drivers side heat shield.

Thanks to WE3ZS and sammie0126! I was looking at your installs again trying to figure how the dmmm heat shields went on. Thanks to all the others also. I spent a lot of time reading old threads before I decided on the Banks system. Can't wait to crank it up!

Well finally got it done. I left the inner fenders out so I can retorque the headers today. I need to put the rear shock back in. I got KYB Gas Adjust for the front and might buy a set for the back. It rides so much smoother than with the Gabriels that were in it. The KYB's have great control but let the suspension work and just suck up the bumps. The Gabriels were really harsh. We want to get new springs before winter, so I hated to buy shocks now, but it sure rides better. I wonder if some of the guys that say the V/B or Pro Comps are to stiff just need shocks with less compression damping?

I left my camera at the shop so I'll post pics later.

Well it's all done! Headers are retorqued and everything is buttoned up. I started Saturday evening and finished it the following Sunday afternoon. So glad it's done. No more ticking or whooshing(was really bad the last couple weeks). It does have the drone at cruising speed though, but not nearly as annoying as the ticking. Maybe add a resonator or another free flowing muffler? It definitely has more power. I don't need to push as hard on the throttle, but it sure is fun!

I'll add more pics and stuff later this week. I had a few issues, I hope I have pics of them.

Me

My wonderful and patient wife.

drivers side

Had to grind flange on this bolt

I had two helpers, my wife and my cousin Gary(not pictured). We started Saturday and worked on it all week, finishing the next Sunday. I get to talking and some of the parts runs took longer than they should have. The kids had to get places and had some other things to do also.

The bolt in the picture we ground the flange down for clearance of the tube. We still ended up tapping it in with a hammer and punch because the head of the bolt hit the tube.

After

I thought I was going to put new stacks on my work truck that week also. I had a local shop put them on. I know it isn't an EX but thought some of you might like a little truck ****.

Had to remove this heat shield to get the header in.

Took out the starter also.

Used this for top starter bolt.

Got at it through here.

Lost a header bolt into the power pickle from the top side, just couldn't figure out where the heck it went. You can't see to the bottom from the top side. Stuck a flexible magnet down into it and came out with the lost bolt!

Had to remove bracket and push hard to get the pegs(by my finger) to pop in. The Banks housing seemed a little longer the stock unit.
