We have 4-6 inches on the ground and still snowing lightly . I plowed the driveway yesterday [ back blade on the tractor ] , But the road will have to Waite for sunshine , as they don't have plows to go around , the back roads . The heat pump kicked on during the night , There was a awful pounding noise like the fan was out of balance . Hope it was just ice buildup , will check this morning . Glad I put in the gas heaters . If all goes right we may get to the main road by Sat. I wonder what it would cost to get my trucks and tools shipped to Aruba ?
Traffic coming to a halt is probably the best thing that can happen! It snows here enough to cover the ground from 0-3 times/per winter, usually in Feb. People have no idea how to drive in it. I'm from Buffalo, but I stay off the roads to avoid the other drivers doing crazy things. There seems to be two major philosophies on how to drive in bad weather (snow or rain) 1. Drive faster (so you can get home sooner???) 2. Drive directly into the nearest ditch (to get it over with?).
They close schools and businesses on the mere prediction of snow, A couple flakes in the air is reason for full on panic. People head for the grocery stores to wipe the shelves of bread and toilet paper (why TP I have never figured out, either they roll up in it to stay warm or no one keeps a spare roll in the house???) Interesting to see what people think are essentials they can't live without for a day or two. Beer and chips or cookies are typically #2, 3.
The snow doesn't usually stay around for more than a day or two. High today 35, tomorrow partly sunny 45, into the mid 60s by the beginning of next week. I just watch it until it melts.
If the roads are not clear by tomorrow, I feel sorry for the businesses that depend on valentines day sales.
It sneeted a bit last night so there is a frozen crust on the snow. It took my dog a bit before she was brave (or desperate) enough to venture out onto it. It would support her unless she tried to run then she would break thru or slip and slide. It freaked her out the first time and she refused to do anything. I let her out again about 1/2 hr later (I think her eyes were turning yellow by then) and she went about 2' before squatting down, then immediately came back to the door.
A bit of advice for those of you experiencing abnormal snow accumulations and low-carriage dogs. I have to run the snowblower around the yard so my wife's 7 lb ball of rage will go beyond the bottom step to relieve herself.
Awoke to a bit of snow this morning. Measured about seven inches on my shooting bench. Got the road plowed and now keeping the fire warm.
Date shown is default date on the camera. New batteries, ya know.
We haven't had a flake here in Houston, but it has been the coldest winter in a long time. Lots of mist and light rain and many days where it didn't get out of the 30's. Today we are getting a break, it is getting up to the high 60's with lots of sun.
