More white stuff is falling from the skies. This time they called off school in plenty of time, so I have no worries about getting stranded with students (and kicked to the curb once they're gone). Hopefully, this go round will be much less newsworthy.
Good to hear. Maybe it will freeze some of those zombies out that are walking around down there. I've been watching that Walking Dead show. It's pretty wild. Is any of that filmed anywhere near you?
Snow in general is not that bad. An ice storm will show you what old man winter is made of. When sturdy trees get an inch or so of ice build up, branches start breaking. And they take power lines with them. Leaving work and finding an inch of ice completely covering your car. you just eventually learn to not be in a hurry.
Snow has it downsides. As a flat lander, i can tell you within 1/8 of a mile you can go from 50ft visibility to 0. Drifting snow gets nasty around here. Sometimes the good days are navigating by staying in between telephone poles and mail boxes. With 6 to 8 foot ditches, you dont want to go off the road.
Checked the current conditions about an hour ago: -8 F. Just checked again: -10. But the good news is that we're supposed to get up to 25 F tomorrow! It's supposed to snow, though. I am really looking forward to a day when it's warm (like 25-35 F) AND sunny!
As I was typing that last post, I was thinking that some people might think us Northerners are nuts for thinking that 25-35 degree weather is reasonable warm and I remembered this meme after I hit send.
It's all about acclimation to where you live- when Dan lived in Phoenix, he was perfectly comfortable walking around outside when it was 104. Now that he's back in cooler climates, he's got the A/C cranked once it hits about 80.
But remember, it's not the heat-it's the humidity!
Our streets are clear now. I drove down my hill a little bit ago and they put so many cinders on our street that there was a black cloud blowing behind us. We probably need to start wearing masks to protect our lungs.
A couple of years ago a friend of mine got sick of all the cinders on his road. So he went over an opened the fire hydrant to wash them off. The city didn't appreciate that too much.
Just a heads up . Tuesday at 5:30 pm . SC national guard has been called up , GA governor declares a state of emergency , Obama declares GA a disaster area . GA power has moved 400 lineman to help restore power . All schools, colleges , and many business already closed for Wednesday . Here they are calling for 7-10 inches of snow and 1/10 inch of ice . We are being told power will be out for days . I wonder what Noreaster would do to this area ?
Emergency weather radio said we are in for a Winter Storm our own selves.
That's a bit scary when they get scared around here. Calling for High wind.
Threes down and power out. No biggie. Get that a lot here. But calling for lightning
as well with the show. Never have seen that yet here. How would ya.
If ya see it in all this snow coming down it's gonna hurt.
Well maybe ya would not feel it I guess.
