We got hammered again last night. Freezing rain and sleet for about 4 or 5 hours last night. I could literally hear it hitting the side of the house all night long. Then we got about 5 or 6 inches of snow. That ice beneath the snow made for some interesting driving. Kentucky traditionally has been a "border" state between the frigid north and the south. But things have definitely shifted below us this year. We haven't had these kind of winters since the 1970's.

I remember a year in the 70's when it seemed to snow every Sunday and we (central KY) missed school every Monday for like a month or more. '77 or '78 maybe?

The winter of 76-77 was the worst on record (in Springfield, IL where I was living). I'd take a shower after work and any hair sticking outside of my stocking cap would freeze up in the 30 minutes it would take me to drive home. OBTW, stop leak is also good at stopping flow through heater cores.

60s yesterday and 33 right now . Can't imagine living where 33 is considered warm in March . Back to the 50s and 60s in a day or two . Still can't get use to seeing someone pulling a boat around in the middle of winter , Big fishing contest on Lake Hartwell this weekend .
It's running right around 15 degrees here right now. Ex wife wanted her favorite boy to spend the night last night. She text me yesterday morn and said she had a gallon of
drinking water sitting on the floor along side the wood stove. With the stove cranking the jug froze. She said maybe we should wait a little longer until it warms up to have
him over.
Damn lazy drugged out old man she has could well have got some insulation in there
cabin in the 4 years they have been in it. Oh well she made the choise and is still there.
IDK. Me and the boys are warm and comfy as hell don't cha know.

The winter of '78 was no treat either and was the straw that broke my back. I drove on icy roads all the way from northern IL to Albuquerque. Few regrets.
I remember well that in the '60's Prestone marketed some antifreeze with "built-in" stop leak that plugged up every Ford heater core in my family's cars. What a treat that was to change them out.

I always wondered why they didn't still sell that anti-freeze. I guess that explains it. I remember it as being Zerex? Apparently all related commercials have "disappeared." Here's one that kind of related:

Could have been, I remember my old man thought it was just the ticket for our Comet and Country Squire, and my grandpa's Mustang. It was a nightmare for me, pulling the heater boxes on all three in an unheated garage. Fortunately none had A/C.
