Harley drilled out the axle and had it powder coated. We don't like the powder coat at all, so it will come apart this winter and go to our chromer for full plating. Now with the new lathe, I can finish the disk brake conversion spindles for the front axel too!

Gramps got much more talkative about it as he knew he was dying, from what I knew, he rarely even mentioned he was in the Army after he came home.
We found pictures years later.
Some of the strangest were of him standing around un-armed except for a clip-board, with lots of German POWs smiling in the background......some kind of work detail for POWs..........I guess that's why he knew so much German.

Hmmmm. might need an extra set done for my panel. Stock is nice, but you need to be able to stop better than they did baack then.
I know the feeling on powder coat. one little rock chip, and it's rust bubble time
Plus, there's nothing like the look of chrome!
I've got to get going too. Got tangled up reading some of Mark K's stuff on transmissions. Now I'm late. Oh well, it's my schedule so I can rearrange it as it see fit!
Well......I'm back! Got a bunch of "stuff" done today. Gonna be an early night for me. Going to work on the garage roof at the base tomorrow. Start early in the cool morning, then go into the shop after lunch...

Evening DOn, what are you doing to the spindles to make them Disc brake friendly?

I've had an idea for a conversion for a few years, but needed a larger lathe to work on it. We'll see if it will work now that I've got a bigger lathe...
