Just a fly by. In for lunch and now I'm off again. I'm hiding from my wife. She wants to "discuss" the purchase of a camper she found for the pickup.........................I think I've already lost the battle so I'm just delaying the inevitable.
I hated the slide in camper. You have to pack everything up everytime you move the truck, and that was quite a bit, keep in mind that's all the time, your house is your wheels. That sucker was tight too, you slept above the cab, your head hit one side, feet the other. Plus having to climb up there. Add to the fact when you have kids or company, you have to step on their bed to get in and out of your bed. And don't get startled in the middle of the night and sit up quick!!!
Then there's the bathroom. You almost have to leave the door open to sit on the toilet.
Then there's the shower, you have to stand beside the toilet to get a shower. The toilet gets a shower with you BTW.
No thanks. We kept it for 4 trips out, and traded it on a travel trailer. I got raped on the trade in value, but at that point I didn't care!!!

I will take a slide in camper over any other RV, Charlie.............You can still tow sizable loads, (boats is what I am meaning!)..........Can't do that with a travel trailer.
You can go off-road and leave the city folks behind in the campgrounds, drop the camper and use the truck, no cruise ship turning radius like in a motorhome..............In fact I cant wait until I can unload our 26ft class C on some unsuspecting sucker, and buy a nice new Lance 9-1/2 ft camper again.
Sure it's smaller but, 2 people and 2 big dogs have PLENTY of elbow room in a well laid out truck camper.
I've got an Arctic Fox 9-1/2' with a big dinette slide. More than enough room for my wife me and our daughter plus the herd of dogs we've got.
Yes, the bathroom is a bit small but it has an outside shower with hot and cold water... It works great for dry camping.
And as Dave pointed out, you can drop the camper (electric hydraulic jacks with remote) and go get fire wood, back the boat down the ramp easily or go site-seeing... Or more often than not in our case... run back to town for something we just "can't live without".
I waited 10 years to get a camper. I absolutely love it. If I had a dully I would get a bigger one... Maybe.
Morning Gerry... It appears winter has come back. Raining and cool here this morning.
One more day for me to trudge through and my work week will be over (at least the part where I get paid for working). I've got lots of things to do to be ready for our daughter's graduation party on Saturday.
