It is a beautiful day in Central PA after tropical storm Debby blew through last week. We have low temps, low humidity. I don't drive my truck often enough. In order to get it out of the garage I have to move my wife's van to the street. And sometimes I just don't feel like it.
So today I drove it to the diner. Then I drove by the high school to watch preseason soccer practice. One of my long time assistant coaches was there watching his grandson.
I took the back road home.
The site of my favorite junk yard near Lock Haven, now cleaned up.
As mentioned, I've encountered a 17% grade sign in Ohio coming back from TS23. It looked really steep as we were approaching, but with a good running start (maybe 65 mph) we made it up easily--and in 4th gear too. A 17% grade is of course quite different from a 25% grade.
As a kid growing up, I was always interested in the "Consumer Reports" testing and ranking of cars. One of their tests, I believe was top speed obtainable on a grade. I can't remember if it was a 10% or 20% grade for the test. Those were the good old days--before "Consumer Reports" decided only cars from Asia were worth seriously considering.
Took the 125 mile drive to my parents today. Truck is running great. Tomorrow will be a little longer drive.
Here I am pulling up to my parents driveway.
it's called breakneck road in vernon nj, zero run off at or near the bottom, just a big red STOP , 2 other ways off the mountain 1 at 19% and 1 at 17% all are 1 plus miles long, crazy that drivers of trucks and buses today can't read OHH my gps told me go this way,
heres looking up it
I am making an effort to drive my truck more often. My excuses were "too hot" and "I gotta move the wife's car" to get the truck out.
I had to put air in my wife's car tire. Then I drove it to see if the low pressure light went off and parked it in the street. And we are having cool September weather in August.
So I told my wife that I'm taking Old Betsy for a drive. I went over some back roads I don't normally travel. One paved road turned into a gravel road. Very enjoyable.
