Geez, I must be doing something wrong. In the 12 days of ownership of my "used" 2017 F250 6.2L/3.73 gears with 8700 miles, I've been pretty consistent with the 12.4 MPG and the hand calculations backed it up. Granted, I've not been driving my normal route and have been driving back roads, but I was hoping for a tick more. However, on the positive side, the lifetime MPG on the truck (PO never reset trip B) has increased from 10.2 to 11.0 so we're going in the right direction! The PO did a lot of trailer hauling and I think he broke the engine in pretty well.
I'm thinking to ditch the front plow mounts and put a new, full spoiler on. I've heard that helps a little? I don't know, hoping to take a long highway trip this weekend and get a better test (if I hit 15mpg I'd be ecstatic). But, living in PA, there are nothing but hills on our treck!

Your milage is right on for the rest of the nation that posts on here, Chuck somehow is light years ahead of us in mileage. My best was 14.4 over about 450 miles, but we have some hills here in the west coast
You will be hard pressed to ever hit 14 in PA. I went to a 2wd front spoiler, never noticed a difference running 55-60. I lost a couple tenths on the interstate.
I finally took my 2016 on a long freeway trip without pulling the trailer, so I can chime in here now with my numbers. My truck 2016, 4x4, SBCC,6.2, 4.30, 285/65/18 Nitto Grapplers. My around town average over the last 5,000 miles has been 10.8. I cannot break the 11 mpg barrier. On my trip this weekend it was 250 miles of all freeway with some rolling hills. I average 15.1. I was happy with this considering my in town mpg.
It took my 2016 F250 6.2 3.73 rear on a camping trip last week as you can see from the photo my mpg was 11.3. I was towing a 4 horse gooseneck trailer with about 8000 total weight. About 90% of the driving was towing. So glad I didn't buy a diesel. Ford made the decision easy for me....If you don't tow over 15,000 lbs you don't need a diesel. I'll use the 9k I saved to buy something else or put it in my retirement account.
12.5 over the last 2300 +/- miles. Last tank was 13.3 more highway less county/gravel roads on that tank. Over all the 17 is better than the 11 or 16 out of the gate. All 3 are 3:73 16 was a 350 which was the worst. 13 ecoboost was only 13.5. 2010 f150 was 12.5-13 over all nothing to complain about.
I find MPG threads to be really frustrating and, in the end, not very informative. For example, the post above states 13.5 on an Ecoboost. My multi-thousand mile summertime average was 19.4 on my '12 Ecoboost.
That's why I say there are just too many variables; terrain, wind, speed, driving style, etc to get any real sense of what YOU are going to get with a vehicle.
BTW, I am not calling out the post above; only using it as an example.

Agreeed I should have been more specific. That was the average for around 40,000 miles on my ecoboost. I spend a good amount of my time on county/gravel roads and lesser maintained roads. Point being the average for F250 was 1 mile per gallon less than that if my ecoboost (which I love by the way) over the same driving style/conditions.

Thanks for that. I didn't get your meaning there.
I'd be delighted with that!! Have a 2018 SD 250 on order. I'd be happy with 16 mpg. We'll see . . . . . .
