6.2L mpg update?
Cruise control is not for optimal mpg. It cost at least 1 mpg over a conservative drivers manual input. But it does make interstate travel much more enjoyable. I hate having my cruise set and passing another vehicle back and forth 5 times in 20 miles.
I'm running a 4x4 CC F250 with 8' bed on 35" tires and 4" lift. My MPG's are not very good towing. I averaged 6.5-7 MPG towing a 32' TT from OK to Gulf Shores. Was loaded out at around 11K Lbs. I came out of a 99 F350 7.3 Diesel so I have been spoiled when towing, BUT, I have been happy with the 6.2 capabilities. Seems to have enough power for what I need, and not the maintenance expense of a diesel. My daily driving Hwy MPG's are around 12, and city driving around 9. I'm running an SCT tuner with 87 octane ECO, 87 PERF, and 87 Tow, and I'm very pleased with the way the truck runs now.
I ripped my front air dam off a couple weeks ago, and just for comparisons sake, I reset my mpg meter to see how good I could get without it. I plan on putting a shorter 2wd air dam back on it in a couple weeks. I now have about 7500 miles on my truck, and about 500 since I reset my meter. I had been averaging about 12 mpg with my conservative daily driving, which consist of 1/2 50mph hwy(which means 55-60 mph for me) then 1/2 of back to back red lights. I've been admittedly "hypermiling" in the am with little traffic, slowing down on hills and doing a lot of coasting, but in the evenings, I've had my same conservative driving style, just pulling out easier. Only a short @10 mile trip down the interstate, so no real comparison without the air dam. I'm at 14.9 mpg right now. So, the air dam has no real effect at lower speeds(no real surprise), but it does prove what many have said, drive like there is an egg under your foot for mileage. I'm not exactly real concerned about mileage, I traded a gas getter for this truck knowing it would suck, but it's nice for a comparison, and I probably want keep the mileage up like this, to boring. When the truck was newer and I was playing around with it a lot, I had seen mileage below 10 for the same commute.
That's why I hyper mileage in the am, not much traffic to hold up at 5:15 am where I live. Most of its 2 lane anyway. I'm not going to be one that does it in traffic in the afternoons. I've always been the type that pulls out the fastest from a red light. Not going to be the hold up in the left lane for sure.
I get about 12 to 13 mpg out of my 2015 f250 6.2 fx4. I have upgraded to the factory 20 inch platinum wheels and tires that I bought from the dealer as take offs. The only thing that bothers me is when I hook my 5/8 lawnmower trailer I lose 1 mile per gallon the trailer is very light just one zero turn mower in trailer. Know when I hook to my 14 foot dual axel scaffold trailer very heavy I only lose 2 miles per gallon very strange. The truck has been this way since I drove her off the lot and it has 40 thousand now
420 mile trip to Lake Tahoe
Hi all I Just completed a 420 mile trip to Lake Tahoe. We went over a 8000 ft pass at Kirkwood via Rt 88. This trip had several passes over 6000/7000 ft.
Truck specs were the 6.2 with the 3.73's. 4x4 CC SB. Trailer was 27 ft tip to tail roughly weighing in at 7000 lbs. We nothing too heavy in the bed. Bicycles coolers. We averaged 9.8 MPG. At one point going over the Kirkwood pass the motor was screaming pretty good at 4000 RPM in 2nd gear. But it held 55. I actually passed a little honda civic.

2011 6.2 S/B C/C 4x4 summer trip
Just finished up a 5153 Km trip through BC and Alberta in my truck, 2011 6.2L CC S/B 4x4 with 4:30 rear end, towing our 35' fifth (weighs in at just under 13k lbs). All in, with 90% or better of the miles towing, we finished up the trip with an average of 9.2 mpg or 25.5L/100km. My highlight? Passed a loaded logging truck on a 4% grade at 65 km/hr, towing the trailer, in 3rd gear at 4300 rpm. The higher revs take some getting used to, but as I went I was monitoring all the engine temps and the worst I saw was an increase of 4 deg C on the tranny after climbing almost 20 km of a hill in the Rogers Pass at 6% average grade. The truck held at 80 km/hr the whole way up. The truck now has 87,482 km's on her and pulls like a demon. Love this truck and this engine. Easily outpaced my brother in law in a 2009 F350 w/V10 and same trailer weight on the back. At 2000 rpm, she'll run all day, but drop a gear and get above 3,000 and watch that baby pull. Really gets crazy in 3rd gear when you pass 4,000, you can feel the torque curve kicking in and actually press you back in the seat - with 13k on the back!
